We have a 2006 model. Approximately how much are we to expect to pay to have this TV repaired? Thanks for any info you have to offer. We tried the unplugging thing after calling Sony service but it didn't correct itself.

Re: sony bravia KDL40S2000 standby blink four times
A 4 flash issue means either the back light inverter (power supply) has failed or that one of the fluorescent tubes in the panel has failed. The only way to know for sure is to check the fuses that are on the inverter board. If one or more of the fuses are opne, then it is likely the inverter board is bad. If the fuses all check good, then the panel is at fault. If it is the inverter board, it is a part you could replace yourself; the cost of the board is about $70. If it is the panel, you would probably want to consider replacing the TV, as the repair costs would be over $1000

Normally on the Panasonic tv this will call for a service call. The key to getting it repaired correctly is to check for a certified Samsung repair shop because most of the parts come from Samsung. Now if you want to do your own research call to 800 number for Panasonic Tv see if there are any problems with that model that the manufacturer has extended but does not post. I had one repaired that the red light on also so I understand and it went out approximately 4 3/4 years. If your in the Atlanta area use Norman electronics they have repaired hundreds on tvs for me due to my work.
the reasons to choose brand names is compatability.
unknown brands or noname brands have issues with compatability.
you may pay more for big name brands but the offer better quality and better customer support as well.
there are sometimes cheaper versions of the brand names on tvs..however they only offer 720p..which is a lower high def tv then the 1080 versions. make sure to always do your home work when shopping for tvs as to what you are actually paying for.
shop at big name stores that offer real tsch support and exchange programs.
somtime the little retail outlets are selling floor models or refurbished models. they dont offer a good exchange or warranty program.
its better to pay more and get what you really want rather then end up with a cheaper tv that stops working.
If you bought the TV withing the past 12 mos., contact their Customer Service and request advice or contact the store that you were you bought the TV. They should have giving you a 12 mos. guarrantee on the TV. If any advice they may give you does not work, you should try to send it back for replacement or repair.
If you bought the TV over 12 mos. ago, the company will offer you the option to pay a fee to offer you advice or to send it back for repairs.
The only thing I can suggest outside of taking the television to get repaired is a hail-mary firmware update. To be honest, the firmware update process is fairly complicated and lengthy. You can download the firmware and find instructions for it here.
Look on the right hand side for firmware information.
This TV is likely outside of its 1 year manufacturer's warranty so you would have to pay any and all repairs. Before deciding to do a repair you might try calling Philips. For a while they were offering a service to customers like yourself with out of warranty units. They would offer to sell you a more up to date model at a discount. I'm not sure they still do this but its worth a shot.
Second hand price is difficult to say, probably about $500. If the unit is in good shape it does not go down too much. New RRP is over $1000, offers however start at about US$600 (about £400 in UK). Probably you can find a little cheper in Ebay.
I suggest not buying a second hand plasma. Plasma TVs have a couple of weakness points, and often break down after few years usage. If you buy a second hand you do not have any info on its usage, and you may find yourself in need of changing a sustain board within the year.
Hi, I replied your previous question, click HERE to read it again. If tv shows bright picture in proper focus then it would last few more years as it is rear projection tv that has 3 picture tubes (red-green-blue) to project color picture on front screen. Its your choice to have new tv instead of repairing this one and yes, its correct that 32 inch tv is available under 700-800 dollars. Hope these info will help you. Thanks.
This is a typical problem for several Akai/Ilo models that utilize the MLT169A Main Power Supply. Your choices are to Replace the power supply (about $100 shopjimmy.com) yourself. Repair the power supply If you are an electronics technician. Or for the "money is no object" wealthy, take it to a local repair shop and expect to pay in excess of $300. Just be aware that the problem will most likely return in the near future. I am on my 3rd PS in 2 years, 1 lasted only 61 days.
