On older DP-01s there was no built in metronome. Instead you had to midi sync a drum machine in order to get a click track.

Later firmware revisions however did have a built-in metronome. I'm sorry I don't know the revision levels that had it as my DP-01 is long gone. I do remember that the manual came with an addendum which contained the instructions for the metronome though. Unfortunately I don't believe Tascam makes firmware upgrades available for the DP-01 like they do for some of their other models so the firmware might be hard to come by if yours is an older one.

Just thought I'd add this: I did just find the info that any firmware version from 1.10 and upwards has the internal mentronome built-in. So if your firmware is 1.10 or greater you won't need a midi device to get the metronome working, just the instructions - which unfortunately I don't have.

How do i convert my itunes songs(mp3 format) to the wav format

I;m ahving this same problem myself. After spending the last six months recording my album and remixing again and again, I finally registered with CDbaby and their upload page is not reading my songs from my usb storage card. Never had this problem before. Every mix Ive burned down and added to the media player on my main computer, converted to the flash drive numerous times and was always able to send songs to friends via email, and onto my myspace. But for some reason CDbaby wont read my songs. ??? and the media player on my mini laptop won't sync from te flaash card either. I dont know what the hell the problem is, but numerous aggravcasions over thge last 6 months have stemmed from mastering issues on the Tascam. An ex rooommate had sonic foundry which I must say produced better sound results and less conversion issues

What does I/O too short mean on a tascam dp01? how do i delete unwanted time on the track ive made with it?

I/O is are the Set In (the start of the recording) and Set Out (the end of the recording). You must set these marks to master the recorded material. If you look you will see the "Set In" and "set out" buttons. YOU MUST DO THIS. If the I/O are not set you are basically try to master Nothing 0.0-0.0secs. So Set your In at the start, and Set your Out at the end of the recording. You must do this. Do not touch the Out until your recording is complete.

Don't know how to actually record

To record you need to first assign your input to a track, then arm the track for recording, and then press play + record at the same time.

1. So you would patch you mixer's output into an input on your DP01 (say input A). You can run some audio to set the level with the input level knob (located next to input A on the front panel).

2. Then to assign that input to a track simply press and hold the 'input A' button and then press the 'rec' button of the track you with to record on. The 'rec' button will flash rapidly to indicate that the input is assigned to the track.

(To assign the input to a different track you have to clear the input assignment from the first track and assign the input to a new track. To clear an assignment press the input assign key, A in this case, and the track it's assigned to will flash its 'rec' button. Hold down the input assign key and then press the flashing 'rec' button. The button will stop flashing and the input can then be assigned to another track by following step 2 again).

3. Next, to arm the track for recording simply press the 'rec' button for that track. The 'rec' button with flash slowly.

4. To begin recording press play + record together in the transport section and the 'rec' light for the armed track will stop flashing and light steadily. Press 'stop' to end recording.

This should get you started. The operation of the DP01 is actually pretty intuitive once you've gone through it a couple of times (which is one of the real strengths of the unit). You'll be multitracking like an expert in no time.

Cheers,

bd.

The DP01 needs wav files to be in mono in order to import them. Make sure you're not trying to import stereo wav files.

Tascam DP01 CD/FX

This is basically an error message which indicates that the Tascam timed out while waiting for the drive to spin up. Usually an issue with the drive motor not getting the correct amount of power.

Primary suspect is usually the power adapter.
