Question about Toshiba Satellite 1405-S151 Notebook

1 Answer

I want to upgrade the memory to 1GB.

I have 2 512 memory chips and when I install them I get an exception error (select = 0048H offset = BDD4H). It will boot to windows XP Pro with one of the chips but the I get a "Blue Screen" and it restarts. I flashed the BIOS with the latest one I could find a Toshiba which was dated 12/17/02. Can you help? Thanks, Chas

I had a 512MB and a 256BM stick in my 1405-S151 which made it run at 768MB. The documentation online said it can run at 1GB. So I ordered another 512MB stick and when I installed both of them, the laptop beeps three times. What does this mean? If I try both sticks one at a time, they both work. I'm at a loss.

Can I upgrade memory to only one gb of memory or install 2 512 mb on a toshiba satellite m35x series

http://www.shopping.com/xPF-Toshiba-Toshiba-Satellite-Notebook-PC-M35X-S114

Looking at the specs, the max is 2gb for your Toshiba. According to this website, its only a 256mb ddr sdram. So my guess is you only have 1 slot for the ram. I'd go with a 2gb ram if you can afford it, 1gb just don't cut it in todays technology.

I believe its the PC2700 model, so find a 1gb or 2gb PC2700 @ 333mhz and you should be set.

RAM problem

Hello, if you have an intel m processor for your sony then u are somewaht out of luck. the base memory is 256 megs and it is not in the motherboard but rather integrated in one of the slots itself, that means if u put a 512 mb chip into that certain slot it will only read 256. a lot of people are mislead into thinking they can put two 512s and get a gig of memory, but not true, at least not with most of the sony intel processors. find the base slot by switching chips around, then leave the 256mb chip there. then u can add a 512mb to the expandable slot and get over 700bytes. if u can find a 1gb compatible stick, then try that the same way, leave the original hynix base slot chip in and add the 1gb, if u can find one, then u will have a little over 1280 of which u can up the video graphic usage up to 128 in the bios, and have your 1gb in memory. if u find a 1gb memory chip that work, drop a line as to what brand and size u used

Reg ram upgradation

Each memory slot on the C555NR can support a maximum of 1GB of RAM. There are actually 2 slots, but only one is easily accessible to you. By upgrading both the primary and secondary DIMMs, you could achieve a total of 2GB of memory but you would have to remove the 512mb chip that is already installed and replace it with 1GB (+1GB in the expansion slot as well.)

If you don't plan on taking the computer to a professional to be serviced, you will probably only want to upgrade the memory in the secondary slot located under the memory cover on the underside of the computer. It can handle a 1GB SODIMM.

FYI the memory is:
200 Pin DDR2-533 PC2-4200 SODIMM

Good luck!

Page 43 of this manual seems to have the best documentation on memory for this machine. I saw a 2GB max in another document and this shows the biggest module as 1GB. I would believe that infers a pair.

HOW TO INSTALL ANOTHER MEMORY STICK

Most newer laptops have easy access to their memory slots, I'd recommend you got to the manufacturer's website and look for the maximum memory your system will allow. If you look at the bottom side of your laptop, you may see several small covers with just one or two screws in them. One of them will be where the memory slots are. It is not uncommon for the laptop to have a very small 'memory chip' icon on the cover. Be aware that many laptops only support two memory chips, and may have both filled already. For example, if laptop has 512MB memory, it may have two x 256MB chips in it. Which would mean, that to upgrade to 1GB memory, you would have to purchase two x 512MB chips. or one 1GB chip.
