Inside every part is a little green picofuse.
When the printer starts, it looks for continuity. If present, it burns the fuse and resets the corresponding counter.
If you want to be creative, you can replace the little fuse. Easiest done in belt and fuser. Almost impossible in drums. Or one might construct a little device with a fake fuse to insert between the part and the corresponding connector.

Power off the device. Remove the new fuser. Ensure there is no debris or paper through the paper path (blow some air through it.. Ensure all the flags are neither broken nor in the wrong position. Reinsert the new fuser, ensure the covers are properly in place then power on.
I've faced this problem on my C301dn, I've tried to reset it but no way (I've also broken several plastic part doing it!!!), finally I've solved as below:
- I've bought another fuser (oki original), installed and used for a couple of days, then I've re-installed the old fuser...and it works perfectly!!! Not the most economic way but at least you have a spare fuser for the future
The drum is not the same as the fuser unit. The fuser is sold as part of the maintenance kit. I've found two part numbers: one for a printer that uses 110 V: OKI-50230120, and one for 220V printers:OKI-50230130.
The drum holds the toner from the toner cartridge; the fuser heats up and locks the toner to the paper. http://www.fastprinters.com/oki-supplies.asp is one source that seems to still have these in stock for both power configurations. However, I found several links for the 110V version with Google. (Some have it in stock; others don't).

No, when you need to replace the drum, you must replace the drum. You don't want to mess around resetting fuses on the drums. They go about 10,000 pages on the 5500; then start to make lines, streaks etc on the printout. Why would you want that.
