The issue is not with your printer, rather it is with your pc. You might need to get your computer cleaned up as the normal situation with this is a lack of available memory for the processing required to translate the scan. Check to see what other programs you are running. You can do this by pressing ctl-alt-del and enter your task manager. you will see processes and the numbers will be flicking up and down, it is possable that one of these is causing you an issue. Do not end any of the processes. close this window and open start, run. type "msconfig" and press enter. This will open up a series of windows. the last one is your "start up" any and or all of these can be removed from start up. You will then have to reboot your pc and see how it goes. Don't be too concerned about removing them all, you can simply put them back into your start up folder by re entering this window and reticking it.
Once you have done this, you will find your pc will run a heap faster, however if you are still having issues with scans, it may mean that you need to upgrade the memory in your pc or up grade your pc.

Error message with canon mx410 "cannot scan from adf"

I fixed this by changing the Copy Intensity from Auto to Manual
I had the same paper jam (caused by pressing Stop during a page going into the ADF), but I had pressed OK as instructed and the page was auto fed back out again. Then I couldnt copy from ADF after that.
I tried everything, and then started to retrace my steps of all the things I might have tinkered with to try and get the copying working in the first place, before the paper jam.
Then I remembered I had set the Copy Intensity from Manual to Auto (thinking Auto is always best). With hindsight, it now makes sense for it to be manual with the ADF as otherwise how would it load a page, use it to set auto density, and then reload it again for the actual copy to occur. This happens okay on the flatbed scanner as it can scan a little, work out the settings, and then scan for real.
Copy Intensity is reached on my Canon MX from the Menu button at the bottom left of the front panel. - Then press the right arrow twice to get to Color Intensity. - Hit OK. - Then right arrow from "Auto" to "Manual Adjust"- Then pick a setting or leave it as half-way between light and dark- Press OK
Now every time my ADF copying works a treat. Thats what I get for tinkering in things I didn't need to change in the first place. I was just trying to get a quick copy going from ADF to paper without saving a file up on the computer and then printing.

I cannot send a fax or scan a document. Are there special drivers or software needed to do so?

Looking at your unit, you can send a fax or scan a document by using the operations screen using the menu's accessed from the front panel of the unit. You can send faxes if you have connected the machine to a telephone line. You can scan to a USB drive or a computer, if you have a computer or USB drive connected to the unit. I have attached links directly to Cannon's support site for the on screen manual and for drivers and downloads. There are MP drivers and MP Navigator EX that need to be installed. These applications can be obtained from the second link, drivers and downloads.

To scan you will need to connect the unit to a computer by using a USB cord and thru a network. If you have the unit on a network then you need to install the Cannon IJ Network Scan utility, also available on the second link,

Saving Scanned Data on the Computuer

(1) Make sure that the power is turned on.

(2) Load an original on the Platen Glass or in the ADF (automatic document feeder).

Select the scan operation.

(1) Press the SCAN button.

(2) Make sure that PC is selected, and press the OK button.

The computer selection screen will appear.

(3) Use the (Up) or (Down) button to select the computer to save scanned data, and press the OK button.

Here we select Local (USB).

The document type selection screen will appear.

bullet_s.gif For the network connection, select the computer name to save scanned data in the list.

bullet_s.gif For the connection via USB only, only Local (USB) appears on the LCD.

(4) Use the (Up) or (Down) button to select the type of original and position to load it, and press the OK button.

Here we select Auto detect.
i_important.gif Important

bullet_s.gif Make sure that the originals have been loaded correctly according to the type of original that you have selected. For details, see Loading Originals.
i_note.gif Note

bullet_s.gif If the computer connected over a network is selected in (3), Auto detect does not appear on the LCD.

bullet_s.gif The type of original other than Auto detect includes Document (platen), Photo (platen), Document (ADF simplex), and Document (ADF duplex). If you select other than Auto detect, you can save all scanned data in a PDF file, attach it to a mail, open it with a software application.

Refer to the on-screen manual: Advanced Guide .

bullet_s.gif When selecting Auto detect to scan an original, it will be scanned according to the settings of MP Navigator EX. For details, refer to the on-screen manual: Advanced Guide .

  1. Start scanning.

(1) Make sure that the original is loaded on the Platen Glass or in the ADF.

(2) Press the Color or Black button.

The settings configured with MP Navigator EX apply when scanning.

I will send a separate post to give directions on faxing. You can download and install the manual onto your computer if you like. It contains all of the directions on the use of the unit and has nice illustrations to help you see what the directions describe. Select the On screen manual, let it download and once the file is unzipped, tell it to run. Once the manual installs, look on your program listing on the Start menu for the Cannon manual and open it like any other program.

Here are the links, first for the manual page, look for the link on the lower portion of the page, The second for the driver and download page if you need additional software.

Hello I just figuered out this problem. When the paper is feed thru the ADF ( Automatic Document Feeder ) there is a plastic piece with a plastic film. Check to see if #1 that plastic film is clean and #2 That the Film is not bent and created a crease which is the line that shows when try to print or scan using the ADF. Hope this helps

Does canon pixma mx 310 work faxing page up or page down?

When using the ADF load the document with the side you want to copy, fax or scan facing UP in the ADF.

When using the platen glass load the document with the side to be copied, faxed or scanned facing DOWN on the platen glass.

Trust this helpful.

How to scan picture to upload on computer

First, ensure you are connecting the scanner to your computer. I'm assuming USB connection, and that you're using an operating system supported by this device.

Next, install the drivers and software for this device. Those should have come with an installation disc, but if you don't have that disc, you can get them from the PIXMA MP830 support site, here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804

To scan a single document, place the document:
1. Place the document face down on the platen glass.
2. Open the MP Navigator 2.2 software.
3. Click Scan Photo/Document.
4. Click Document Type drop-down arrow and select the type of document to be scanned. Chose from the following types.
  • Color Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of color documents.
  • Color Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of color documents.
  • B/W Document(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of monochrome documents.
  • B/W Document(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of monochrome documents.
  • Text(Simplex): Select this to scan one side of text documents.
  • Text(Duplex): Select this to scan both sides of text documents.
5. Click 'Specify' and set the preferences as required. Click here for detailed information

6. After making the setting changes, click 'Scan'

7. Click 'Save to PC' or 'Save as PDF file'. Save to PC is displayed when an image is captured with Scan Photo/Document or Batch Scanning

The directions for Batch Scanning, or using the ADF to scan, are shown below.

    1. To scan using the ADF, remove any documents from the platen glass.
    2. Open the document tray.

  2. On the Windows desktop, double-click 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    1. Alternatively, on the Windows taskbar, click 'Start', point to '(All) Programs', 'Canon', then 'MP Navigator 2.2'.
    2. Then click 'MP Navigator 2.2'. MP Navigator opens.

  3. Click 'Batch Scanning'.
