What is standby mode and how to take off TV will not turn on

It means that something in the power section has failed, and the system goes into standby (safety) mode.Could be a fuse, resistor,or IC.Does it blink? On your remote you could press display,channel,5,volume - (minus),then power, for the diagnostics,.....for service mode press display,channel,5,volume + (plus) then power, press 8 then enter

Picture is cut off on sides but not top and bottom. The display channel (default 2) is cut off on the side to give you an idea. (purchased it new around 1998-1999).

With TV powered off, use remote control to successively hit DISPLAY, 5, sound volume +, and POWER all within a second of each other. This takes you to the Service Adjust Mode and the first thing that appears is the Horizontal Size Adjustment "HSIZ". Press numbers 3 or 6 to make the picture larger or smaller. Other things can be adjusted by using numbers 1 or 4 to go through the list but you could really screw up your TV so don't do anything unless you are sure about it. When you're finished hit MUTING and then ENTER to save the changes.

No volume and channel display

Hi,
In this situation as I don't know what adjustment item has been changed, go to service mode and press 5 and 0 on remote. This will reset all adjustments data on factory default. press mute and zero to write on memory. I want to inform you that after above procedure, you will have to adjust Horizontal, Vertical picture size and pin amp adjustments to get normal picture.
Good luck.

Red to pink screen after 5-10 minutes of play....

This is not the tube, it's most likely the colour controller and system function ic has gotten scrambled, taking this to a tech to re program should not cost more than about $150 AU

Maybe it's something with NTSC/PAL settings, or SOURCE SELECT. Check troubleshooting in your manual.

Toshiba 36zp38b picture problems

With it only being about 3 years old, I would suspect bad solder connections rather than defective components like Capacitors. You may get the symptoms to come and go by slapping the side of the set or jaring it slightly which would prove the bad connection thesis. It is not a permanent cure however and you can make it worse if you keep doing that. A solder repair shouldn't run over $225 in my opinion.
