Question about IBM ThinkPad R51 Notebook
Well, sorry those didn't do it for you. Unfortunately, a lot of of people seem to be having this type of problem, and there seems to be a lot of different fixes that work for some cases and not for others. I gave you some of the cheap and easy fixes first, hoping that would help.
What has fixed a number of these is rebuilding back to the orginal factory load. For various reasons, this black screen can be a symptom of your hard drive information having gotten scrambled. And that is why he told you to get the disks. Those disks may seem a little pricey but they are worth their weight in gold when you need them. If you can afford them, I suggest that you go ahead and get them. Will they fix your problem? Most probably, but no guarantee.
If the disks don't do it for you, get back to me and we'll see if we can come up with something else. If the disks fix it, I'd appreciate a note letting me know that,if it's not too much trouble.
Thanks and have a good one!

Try the following to see if these tips might help:
1) Power off, remove the power cord, remove the battery, press and hold the power on button for 30 seconds, or so. Plug the power cord back in and try to bring it back up again.
2) Power down, remove the memory module(s) and reinsert them. Try to bring it back up.
3) Power down, remove the hard drive and power back up.
4) Power down, replace the memory module from a working machine.
Get back to me as to what happens.
