Test the gauge compass +full , for open , corrosion, wires. 2) resistor open normall by 10 ohms 3) maybe can use the thermistor test for open or defective 3) test for open fuse or bad contact fuse, dirty or corrosion or loose wiring.

The fuel tank has 2 different fuel level senders(floats) It needs both of them. You have to drop the tank, and pull the pumps.

Comeing from a cougar expert seeing how I own three mercury dealerships called Holcomb, Holcomb, and Holcomb's if anyone should know the answer to this one it is certainly me. I do all the buying, selling, mechanics myself. Last time I had to fix this for someone I took a mental note. First you are going to have to look on the outside of the vehicle behind the drivers door. This is called a quarter panel but for you lamens it is the fender. You need to look for a round cutout in the rear quarter panel aka Fender. If you will take notice it has a small petrustion that looks like you could stick your finger in it. You will need to pull this hatch open once inside the hatch you will notice another security devise for keeping the full locked in safe. This is a gas cap which leads to a filler neck. You will need to insert gas through this feature and that should take cared of that problem. 1. That buoy floating tank is not working properly
2. That the electrical system that fails to submit the dashboard.
