Question about Rival 3040-VG 4-Quart
I haven't used my crock pot in a while and am using it today. The outside of the crock pot is extremely hot (even on low). I don't remember it ever being like this before. I thought it was always warm to the touch. It got this hot right after being plugged in for only minutes. Is this normal? Do I need a new crock pot?
This is not normal. Thermal switch is not functioning correctly. Wiring inside not easy to replace. Crock pots cause a lot of home fires. Cheaper to simply buy a new one.

The more I am reading, the more concerning it seems to be that a crock pot can 'normally' run with the outside getting hot enough to burn. With other people saying that their models do not get hot, only warm on the outside I shall be returning my CrockPot to Costco and doing more research.... best do without than fear it's use around my two young sons!

The Rival Model 3040 manufactured between 1999 and 2004 was included in a safety recall. The official reason was handle breakage. There seem to be a lot of people who think this model runs too hot, though. For more information, go to www.rivalrecall.com.
