I contacted customer support... they tell me the FAQ information on their own website is incorrect. The opposite is true, therefore the following is correct:

  • If it does not beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced
  • If the unit continues to beep, the keypad needs to be replaced
Here in Canada, they will send you a new one within 3-5 days free of charge. Call customer support:

Canada: 800-501-9471
US: 800-677-LOCK

The woman was very friendly. Great customer support!

If not one solution is to replace it. If you do I will be happy to buy the front face plate and touchpad for $10. On the other hand, I have several new electronic units for the Weiser or Kwikset powerbolt 1000 keyless entry deadbolt and I will be happy to sell you a new electronic unit for $30 to replace the one you are struggling with. It is very easy to remove the old electronic unit and replace it with a new unit.

Key pad doesn't work

Here is the link to the troubleshooting procedure:
The Weiser brand and Kwikset brand Powerbolt are identical (Black & Decker), so these instructions will work just fine for you:

Troubleshooting Tips
If Electronics Are Not Working - Check the Following:
Are your batteries good? Is the power strip plugged in properly? (See step 4.6)
Are the batteries installed correctly and making full contact? (See step 4.8) You should hear a series of quick beeps when batteries are installed correctly and making full contact.
Handing of Your Door
If the bolt does not extend when lock button is pressed, check the handing of your door (See Step 4.9)
Preset Factory Codes
This lock will maintain two different codes.
Two random codes are preset by the factory for testing. It is recommended that you enter
two new security codes to cancel out the preset codes. (See step 5).
Problems with Setting your Security Codes - Check the Following:
You will hear a 2 second beep when your codes are accepted. (See step 5.1-3).
If the unit does not beep - too much time has elapsed between steps 1 & 2. Repeat these steps faster.
Note: You have approximately 3 seconds between step 1 & 2 for your codes to be accepted. Please note the next statement.
Unauthorized Code Warning:
For your added security, a warning tone will sound for 15 seconds if an incorrect security code is entered three times consecutively. The Touchpad will not operate for 1 minute.
Note: If several attempts were needed to set your security codes - you may have activated the warning sound. Wait 1 minute for the unit to be operational again.

After all this, it will probably come down to replacing the keypad assembly. If your lock is less thatn one year old, it will be covered by warranty.
I suggest calling the appropriate toll-free number and having a conversation with a representative about this problem. You will want confirm that you need the part before you go through the expense, and that it's worth it. You will need to know the "finish" of your lock. Try to talk them into warrantying the part, in spite of the age (one year warranty on electronics), as a matter of good customer relations. They will help you get the correct part on order.
I will strongly urge you to consider the cost of the replacement part versus the expense of a new lock. Look into a Schlage if you do. I've seen more problems with the Powerbolt than any other electronic lock.

Locks but only after it beeps and then sounds like a clicking (almost like it's missing a gear) how do I resolve this issue?

Change the batteries. If it still isn't working correctly, give Kwikset Customer Service a call: 1-800-327-LOCK (5625)
The lock has a lifetime warranty against mechanical failure but only a one year warranty against problems with the electronics; try to convince them it's a mechanical problem.
These Kwikset/Weiserlock Powerbolts have a high number of failures, according to the large percentage of problems listed on this sight.
Consider another brand such as Schlage if you choose to replace it.

Why is my Powerbolt 1000 unit beeping?

This is the relevant excerpt from the Powerbolt programming and troubleshooting instructions:

"To determine why your lock is beeping abnormally, please follow these steps:

Take out batteries and unplug powerstrip.
Let it sit for 1 minute, then put the batteries back in and wait another minute.
If it does not beep, the keypad needs to be replaced (17733-1).
If the unit continues to beep, the powerboard needs to be replaced (A17734-3,3 Powerboard 1470 brass finish; A17734-3,26D Powerboard 1470 satin chrome finish; A17734-3,5 Powerboard 1470 antique brass finish)."

Since you've already gone through the battery change, try the battery remove-reinstall recommended above. If that doesn't work for you it suggests that you need to replace the appropriate Powerboard for your lock.

There is only a one year warranty on the electronics and the maker (Stanley-Black and Decker) will not sell the electronic parts separately. Check the installation manual for a reset procedure - basically the lock might be "forgetting" it's programming. Another possibility is that it's trying to move the bolt and can't. Be sure the bolt moves freely.
If the electronics have failed and it's out of warranty, there are other brands that are key-compatible with Kwikset. Weiser locks can also be keyed to be compatible with Kwikset. You'll still have the same problem if the electronics breaks though. The main difference is that other brands don't move the bolt with battery power, they just enable it to be moved by hand.

Yes I just had replaced batteries and when it tries to lock it beeps 3-4 times after locking what is that?

The 3-4 beeps after locking is a audible confirmation that the lock did in fact lock. It is strongly recommended to change the batteries in these electronic locks at once a year to keep them working properly. Think of it as another annual maintenance item to do once a year, along with changing the batteries in your home smoke detectors, etc.

Hope you find this Very Helpful - Best regards!
