My camera is only 6 weeks old and I've been having this problem for about 4 weeks. The camera is off and it looks as though the battery is dead except for there is nothing in the control panel denoting the need for changing the battery. Then when the camera is "on", still nothing is in the control panel and when I look through the viewfinder all that is shown is a fuzzy grid. This grid appears with a lens attached and also w/o a lens. Sometimes if I take the battery out and put it back in, the camera will switch on and look as if there is no problem at all. But sometimes it needs a charge, but generally it is a fully charged battery. I have never had to recharge my battery because the blinking at me. It is only because of this weird problem.
-   I have just got back from holiday and was hoping to upload the pictures from both memory cards on to my laptop. In the process of switching the cards over to complete this process, the control panel on the D300 went completely blank in both 'On' and 'Off' mode and looking through the viewfinder reveals a fuzzy screen with a few oddly scattered boxes. I am unable to switch the menu on either. I have only had the camera 8 months and have probably taken about 1500 shots with it.-   TekPhobe

-   I also have viewfinder problem first time I used my D300 for a photoshoot yesterday. The problem I have is that the viewfinder shows two grids and two center focus indicator. Pictures taken were fine. Looks like there is a major electronic flaw in the viewfinder circuit. -   frankie458

-   The control panel on my D300 suddenly went blank, as did the display that is inside the viewfinder, along the bottom of the screen. Changing out the battery with a fully-charged one did not correct the problem. The camera still functions, and takes good photos, but no data is shown in the control panel or inside the viewfinder. The menu can be read on the LCD screen on the camera back, but not on the control panel. My camera is about nine months old, and has only taken a grand total of 800 photos. Everything worked well until this problem suddenly happened. Any solution would be much appreciated, although I think I'm going to have to send it in for repairs.-   troutbum24
