I have the same problem with the Photo Viewer program for the digital picture ornament from Brookstone. I click open and it opens for a second then immediately goes away and I can see in the middle of the program when I open it that it says 'initializing.'

Photo Viewer ornament software would not load from disk so I went to distributor site and got software. Now error says the device is not recognized after plugging ornament into usb port. I am running windows xp.

I have installed, re-installed and repaired the Photo Viewer software for the Brookstone Digital Photo Ornament but whenever you try to open the soltware, it flashes briefly but fails to open.

  • Anonymous Dec 22, 2008

It just flashes the PictureViewer but will not open it... and when you plug the ornament into the USB, it says "Device Not Recognised"

    Argh!

Did anyone figure out an easy solution to the same problem everyone is having? I purchases several of these for teachers and myself from Linens and Things. So, now I can't return them as they are closing. I have exactly the same problem the program flashes open, I tried all the directions to troubleshoot that came with the ornament and nothing is working.

I purchase several Digital Photo Ornaments for gifts and have the same initializing problem - only quick flashing when Photo View short cut is clicked to open. The ornament display when connected showed USB update and Photoviewer for selections then display changed to connecting - but program will not work. I am running XP

Would appreciate if any one finds the secret to making this work

Has anyone that has been having problems with the Photo Viewer (Digital Ornament) tried any of the suggestions and gotten it to work?

  • tahoeheidi Dec 31, 2008

Ditto. I installed software as instructed, then connected USB cable & ornament and things appeared to work. I tested all with 3 trial photos, but now that I want to add more, every time I click on the desktop icon Photo Viewer, or try to open it from Start All Programs Photo Viewer, all I get is a flashing Inializing ... box that appears for less than a second and nothing opens. Nada. I uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled and tried again - pointless. Any advice, please!!!! Thanks.

Yes, yes, yes! Plug in the ornament to the computer after taking the disk out. Works like a charm, very easy to transfer photos onto ornament from picture files on your computer.

You might try connecting the keychain first and making sure it turns on upon connecting to your PC via the USB cable.

my problem is the photo viewer software that came with it doesn't find any JPG images to put on the keychain...it crashes everytime i click a folder to browse and i've removed and re-installed it twice now. what a piece of ****.

so i solved my own problem...

    basically the original software
would crash whenever finding a directory with JPG files in them...this
software, which is pretty much the same thing, actually works...

I had this problem and was stumped for about an hour or so. until i unplugged the usb from the back then removed the batteries. Replaced the batteries and connected the usb cable. The option for USB Update or photo viewer appeared. I selected USB Update and presses the power/ok button Then tried to open the application and what do ya know??? It worked.

I had trouble opening Photo Viewer program - device was unrecognized. I rebooted the computer with the usb cable attached and the program opened up and worked just fine. Hope this helps someone else as well. I am enjoying the pictures and am glad that the ornament gifts I gave will work as well.

I was reading the directions and it scared me when it said 'you must install the software before connecting the ornament or it can cause permanent damage' because I had the same issue where I was not sure if the installing went haywire.

Turns out that all you have to do is plug the ornament into your computer and then the program runs fine!

Microsoft Picture It! is not compatible with Windows 7.

Microsoft's Picture It! has been discontinued and has been replaced with Windows Live Photo Gallery. You may download Windows Live Photo Gallery for free and install it on Windows 7, however it only has basic editing features.

7 ways to organize your e-mail

Create an online photo albumBecause Windows Live Photos makes it so easy to upload, edit, store, and share photos, one of the first tasks most of us do is create a photo album of our favorite images. Some people create photo blogs that are more about images than text and upload photos from all over—posting the latest images from cell phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs), webcams, and scanners and showing the world what's happening in their lives.
photo-collage.jpgWhat makes a good photo album? The answer is, just about anything—any topic, person, place, or event that you want to share. You might create a photo album to show the 10 finest photos from your best friend's wedding shower. Or you might create a photo album about the weekend you took your son to camp. Or you might simply have one photo album for each of your best friends, or your pets. Whatever the topic of the album, the idea is to group photos in such a way that the folks viewing them will understand how they're connected. You might even simply do a "day-in-the-life" photo album that shows images you captured throughout a single day.
If you don't have your own Windows Live account, go to http://windowslive.com and sign up today! It's free, it's easy, and it’s one convenient place online to share photos, files, e-mail, and see what’s new with your social network.
You can stitch photos together, remove red-eye, crop, and tag photos on your PC with Windows Live Photo Gallery, then upload your albums to your Windows Live Photos page to share online with others. You can also add your favorite photos on your profile so your “What’s New” feed updates to keep friends and family up to date on your latest adventures.
When you're ready to create a photo album, follow these steps:
  1. Go to http://photos.live.com.
  2. Click Create an album.
  3. In the Name box, type the name of your album.
  4. In the Share box, set permissions for those you would like to see your album. You can make your albums public so everyone can see them, share them just with the friends in your Windows Live network, select specific people, or keep them just for yourself.
  5. Click Next.
  6. There are several ways to create your photo album.
Click Select Photos from My Computer to browse for a picture anywhere on your computer.
    -Or-
Click Add from an Existing Album to add photos from an album you've already created and uploaded.
    -Or-
Drag a picture from anyplace on your computer into the Drop photos here box. As soon as you add a photo, the name of the box disappears. To add another photo, drag it to the Drop More Photos here and upload when you're done box. The photo will move to the Drop photos here box
add-photos.jpg When you've added your pictures, select the photos you want to Upload, and that's it! Your album is ready to share.
You and those you've given permissions can choose to view your album as a slideshow or thumbnails.
thumbnails.jpg Show your pictures in a thumbnail view.
slideshow.jpg Display your album as a slideshow.
When you’re done, you can use the Options menu in the upper right to add themes, publish your album in an e-mail, and more.
That's it! Now you can invite everyone you know to come see all your favorite photos. Have fun!

To make your transfer much easier just Copy and Paste your picture file to your desired folder

1. right click your photo or picture and select 'COPY' by pressing left click
2. Open the folder to where you want your photos to be transferred and right click and select 'Paste'
your photos should be copied inside your folder.

you may delete your original photos after copying it to the other folder.

Instructions for digital photo keyring

It should be listed ethier under my computer or down near the clock on the remove hardware safely wizard. That icon looks like a card with an arrow over it.

From the start bar, open "My Computer."

Double click the keychain; It may be listed under a generic name like removable disk F: then double click the Viewer/picture icon.

With the software open, click on Load to view all
images.

If the screen is empty, no photos are stored in memory.

To add a new image into the Click Add Image
images have to be .jpg, .bmp or .gif

If the device is not listed, uninstall the software. Totally shut down without the keychain in the usb.

Plug the keychain into a main usb, not a router. Turn your computer back on. Turn off virus programs. Reinstall using hardware wizard and load the software when the wizard asks drivers.

If the hardware isn't identified, run the wizard from the control panel add remove hardware.

This is the best I can do with no OS or product name. I hope it helps. I can help others better in the future if you rate this answer because it will help me know if I'm on the right track. Thanks, have a good new year.

My problem is with MS Photo Editor bundled with Office: I can no no longer run it in a ''normal'' sized window. When I use it to open a JPEG, it starts out minimized, and R-clicking on the taskbar icon and...

Try this:

Find the MS photo program on your hard drive (I believe, but am not sure, it is located here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Photo Editor.Exe Create a shortcut (right click on Photo Editor.exe and choose create shortcut) to the program. Then, after the shortcut is created, RIGHT click on the shortcut and click on properties. In the properties windows that pops up, find "run probram MAXIMIXED and make sure that is checked." then, click on OK a couple of times until you can see the "shortcut to photo editor.exe" shortcut. Double-click on that shortcut, which should start photo editor maximized.

Woo Hoo.

Now close photo editor.

Hopefully from this point on every time you open photo editor it will open maximized because you have just tweaked the registry to do so...

Take care,
Rob

Digital Photo Keychain

My copy of Photo Viewer came on the provided disk. Run set up to load it (if you do not have a disk go to the key ring manufacturers website). When you use Photo Viewer make sure that your key ring is attached to a USB port prior to starting the programme otherwise it will not load.
