The remote may or may not be the real problem, it is possible on most of these to gain access with back removed directly to the tiny button switch that is in back of the plastic power button on the set and press it with something not sharp (a micro switch is what the button activates) and if set comes on get the remote programmed.
Your best bet if the set will make it on that way is to get the original remote----if in North America with the model number of the set contact either Sharp or Andrews Electronics---usually the original is under 35 dollars and no headaches with programming.
If set does not turn on manually with the micro button you may now have a actual circuit problem in the set.
Howdy, if it has a S-video input ( the round one with the pinholes) and your PC has S-video, then that will deal with the video. Sound runs seperately through either the red and white or the headphone jack at the tv end to the audio out port on the PC. Your TV does not likely have a VGA input, but if it does, then it is the same as the VGA standard monitor output on your PC. As yours is an older model, it may be tricky to get a decent picture from your PC.

On the front of the TV you should be able to press both channel up and down at the same time and it will give you access to the TV menu. Once in the menu use the channel and volume up and down buttons to navigate.
You don't. A good "universal remote" available from Radio Shack (Phillips) for about $15 will provide access to all TV adjustments. Easy to program for all TV models, VCR's, DVD players, etc. About $35 + S&H for the Sharp remote replacement.
1get the original remote control
2get a universal remote control and maybe you can get menu from there.
3get menu on front panel of the tv and search for the option.
4send the tv to autoprogram. Good luck!
Can you use the remote control to change the channels? If not, it may be that to need to reprogram the remote to work with your TV. I just had the same problem. I have GE universal remote and have reprogrammed it to work with my SHARP 27k-s100 TV by following these instructions:
The code that worked for my TV is 173.
Other codes listed for SHARP are:
004, 006, 012, 029, 095, 111, 112, 113, 122, 171.
