Will a dell tft turn on with no source

Your monitor should turn on without a source and display the floating 'Dell - self-test Feature Check' message. If it does not, verify the power LED is on "GREEN" and indicating either power on / diagnostics mode or "Amber" power saving mode. If neither indication you have power problems. If these symptoms do not apply, shine a light on the sceen and see if there is a faint image. If this is true, you have backlight problems.

Dell e173fpc Display Issue

Check if the cable connected to your monitor and video card is fix and secure.. Check also if the video card is properly seated in the motherboard.... Try to check using other computer if the video card is working..

If the test is all ok.. then the last option will be to check the backlight inverter of your monitor....To do this, you need to bring the monitor to a credible technician to have it replace..

much appreciated if you could rate this help..thanks..

My dell E173FPC monitor screen is black and doesnot show for more than 2 seconds although the green power button is on.

You have a unit with a failure in the backlight power supply. This is a common problem with LCD monitors after 2-3 years of use. Here is a link to an article we have posted that shows what needs to be done to repair the unit along with full parts list: If you can solder then you can do the repair yourself. If you don't care to do the repair we do offer a repair service for the unit, details can be found here:

Wont display anything, green light on power button keeps flashing

The flashing light on the Dell E173 series indicates a failure in the power supply board. This series has several versions on the board so you will need to know the exact model, it is listed on the label at the bottom of the back cover. The versions are E173FPc, E173FPb and E173FPf. We have repair instructions posted on our web site at: that cover each version on the unit. The repairs will require replacing a few pars that will need to be soldered.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Dell flat screen monitor E173FPc I put the power on and it comes on but the display turns off after 2 secs while the power light is still on

godiac, What does the flashlight trick tell you? I suspect that the "switch-mode-power-supply" has detected a fault with itself or the CCFL "inverter supply" and is now in partial of full shutdown trying to save itself from a catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. sparks, smoke, fire. Learn flashlight trick for gross status check of unit's SMPS! It might be possible to repair(refurbish) unit for $8 on a DIY quest! If no warranty available or no possible DELL cash+old for refurbed unit then look into doing DIY fix. LCD Monitor Blank/Non-Responsive - Dell E173FPC

Next thing I would check is the VGA cable between PC and monitor.

Make sure is in at both ends and if possible try another one.

Do the Dell Menus come up with no VGA cable plugged in? Is the light amber? Flashing or static?

Dell E173FPc monitor. Screen is black, power button color cycles

First, verify the monitor is functional.
Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
Turn off the monitor
Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any
surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
Turn on the monitor
The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background.
If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective.
What are the results please?

Dell e173fpc

That is a slightly different power supply board if it is the one I am thinking of.l It is similar in style but there is a 1000mf 16v capacitor that once you replace it it will work.
