Question about Honeywell HWM-450 4 Gallon Humidifier

Open Question

Vapor mists, but humidity stays the same (dry)

I have a honeywell 4 gal quicksteam. When I plug it in it reads 20% humidity. I set it for 50% humidity at full force, but 4 hours and 3 gallons later, it is still only 20% humidity. Is it broken. The room I am trying to humidify is 14 x 18. I closed the door and turned off the heater, but nothing.

I had the same problem. Even put the humidifier in a small bathroom and measured the humidity at over 50% but the reading on the humidifier was still 20%, consequently it never shuts off. I have now replaced it and hope the new one works OK

    Humidity always reads at 20%

Just bought the HWM-450 and I have the same issue with the humidity staying stuck on 20%. It worked ok right out of the box but on the second filling it read 20% and hasn't moved for 4 days. I'm researching now and find that other have this same problem. Sounds like a design flaw. Other than that it seems like a good unit. I like that it doesn't need expensive filters and it's easy to maintain but if the humidity meter doesn't start working I'll probably return it.

The demineralzation cartaridge seems to be the issue. Remove it and see it the misting starts. If it does put a hole in the center cylinderical support of the demineralzation cartaridge, the one that fits over the white positioning post that is built into the base of the humidifier. This will allow the cartirdge to sink to the bottom and not interfer with the water tank plunger opening up and filling the base.I opened the hole completly but I think a smaller hole will do.

SOURCE: My Honeywell Humidifier worked last

Hi,

For the humidifier to work you need to have th blower running do that means that you either have to turn the blower on manaually or the heat must be running alot...
I would suggest that you turn the blower or fan switch to the on position for a few days to force the blower to run...this will get the humidity up and then you may have enough runtime for heating for it to keep up then...

SOURCE: Warm Mist HWM-2030 Humidifier: DOES NOT GIVE OFF VAPOR...

If the unit runs normally otherwise, but doesn't give off vapor, then your heating element is the culprit. i.e. if fan runs, switches in normal positions, indicating lights on, etc.and restart slide switch depressed and no mist, then, yes the heating element is the source of the problem. It may be bad, or otherwise it may just be scaled up from hard water, and require cleaning.

Hi I need help understanding the controls to my humidistat. I have a honeywell a/c unit so I'm assuming the gold colored humistat next to it is also honeywell. I bought a digital temperature and humitiy...

The higher the % of RH, (relative humidity), the more humid the house will be. I would disregard the temp part of the dial, and focus more on your comfort. Adjust it up daily until you reach a satisfactory humidity level. Hope this helps

Short cycling

It doesn't sound like it has failed.

The whole point of the % setting is so that the room holds at that %. When the humidity drops lower than, it will kick in. When it raises to that number it will turn off.

If the on and off is bugging you try raising the percentage. Or lower the temperature of your house. Heating will dry out the air and cause your machine to kick in.

Good Luck.

Fan is running but humidity is not changing

Q: My unit has been running for several hours. I hear the fan spinning, but I do not notice the water level in the tank decreasing.
A:
First, check the filter to ensure it is wet. If the pad appears dry, remove it from the Base and gently rinse under cool water. Reposition wet filter in the Base. You may also want to note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture
as your air is already saturated.

UV bulb and filter are user replacement items

4b54ac1.jpg Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 20, 2008 If water level in tank is dropping and fan runs then I'd say it is working.

OK?
Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 20, 2008 Q: I hear the fan turning, but I don’t see any mist. Is my humidifier operating properly?
A:
Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no
“mist” emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the
water level in your Tank/ Base. If you notice a decrease in the Water Tank over 24 hours then the unit
is operating normally.
