Question about RCA D56W20 56" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Power Problem I've got an RCA D56W20 that will turn on and work great for about 10 minuts then the picture will drop out. After doing this for several cycles all of varying times, the tv will shut off. I am thinking one of the components are overheating, because after a few minuts, you can turn it back on and it'll do the same thing again. A repair man came out and wanted to replace the board that the flyback transformer is mounted on, but he wanted $350 for the board plus labor. I Repaired TV's for about 1 1/2 years after highschool, but I am definatly not an expert (plus its been over 8 years ago). Any halp would be GREATLY apreciated.

There are two different chassis used in that model. If yours has chassis # ITC222 then the part number will be 264102 if it is chassis # ATC221 then it will be part # 258762. The defelection board for the ATC221 is the cheapest. Here are two links for both to order. http://www.partstore.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductSKU=2187237&ProductType=PART http://www.partstore.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductSKU=7747288&ProductType=PART

I have an RCA model D56W20. When I press power, the light flashes 3 long flashes then nothing. No picture, no sound.

I may of seen a different version of this question a few days ago, The set has a 3 strikes and you are out (not a joke) as it will try 3 times when powered up to come on and then go into shutdown.

Most common issue is bad solder connections under the High voltage transformer (see photo of typical one).

Not knowing your skill level let me know how you want to proceed.

RCA d56w20 changes aspect size and picture appears jumpy

Thats caused by the small signal board, which is actually a board known to fail when the aspect changes on its own like that. You can get replacement small signal boards at www.tvrepairworld.com

RCA D56W20 picture problems

More information is required to properly troubleshoot this problem. How is your television connected when you are watching HD? Do you have HDMI for this, do you have a satellite or digital cable box? For analogue are you using regular coax antenna (cable TV), or are you going through a cable or satellite box?
This could be related to the aspect ration setting. perhaps you ahve changed your aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 or some other setting. If you are connected via HDMI, then the digital signal may be "normalizing" your picture during HD, but reverting back to the other setting.

Check you video settings very carefully. HD televisions are very difficult to tweak properly.
