I heard from a tech that there is a specific way to power on/off and button sequences to flash the ROM in an IBM 6400 if you have a spare set of DIMM's. Any truth to that?

If you haven' tlooked into any of the print management utilities here is a link.

I am not familiar with this printer .. but maybe this is what you need.

Sometimes we just try .. because we really want to help and hope that maybe we "stumbled" on something.

I'm sure you have gotten your solution by now... First, you are right the only difference in the PTX P5000 series and IBM 6400 series is OP Panel, Top Cover, and Flash Program. You can not download IBM 6400 series, IBM 6400i series, or Infoprint aka IBM 6500 series flash programs. IBM wants to charge you a min. 2Hrs. at $$$$ + CMX Brd. for a 15 minute job. I can build these printers from the wheels to the shuttle assy in my sleep. But I can still help U... U said u had some IBM Flash Programs. If you look at the Current Config on your 6400-XXX and give me from Reference # down to Security Pal info + the program file #'s you have, I'll tell you if you even need Flash.

Ever have any problems with these printers, and you feel like you want a second opinion, please don't hesitate to call...

Oh after working with Printronix all those years, I'm curious why you have a 6400 now...

Printronix p5210 firmware

Hello Fadel,

I emailed 2 different Emulation files...
Let me know if you receive an error. If you get Flushing Ques after you started the download, then you don't have enough Dram memory, Flash memory or Security Pal chip needs a specific Emulation file.

Table mismatch error ibm 6400

Hi

Occasionally you willneed to reload the flash memory in the printer. To do this you will need a PCor laptop, a parallel or serial cable, and the correct flash code file. Thepart number for the flash code file can be found on the configuration printout. If the printer is not functioning and a current copy of the configurationprintout is unavailable you will need to gather some information to enable usto get the correct code for you.
In order to determine the correct flash code for the printer you will need toknow if the printer has any additional interfaces, the part number of thesecurity pal, the model of the printer, the amount of flash memory and draminstalled, and if the customer uses PGL, VGL, or IPDS graphics.
Once you have the correct flash code file you will need to copy it onto thehard drive of the PC you will be using to flash the printer.
Connect your data cable (parallel or serial) from the pc to the printer
On the printer, hold down the Start & Cancel keys while powering on theprinter. Continue to hold both keys down for 5 seconds and then release them.

The default download mode is parallel (Centronics). This is the easiest port toflash the printer through. If you need to change the download port to serial, see the note at the end of this article.

At this point the display should read "Waiting for Program Download".

On the pc, open a Dos window. At the command prompt, change directories to thedirectory in which you stored the flash code file.

At the command prompt type:

filename.exe -pb

where "filename.exe" is the name of the flash code file you areusing.

While the file is being copied into the printers memory the display will showyou the load process and status.

Do NOT interrupt the load process as this can damage the memory and controllerboard.

When the program has finished loading the printer will reset itself.

If after resetting itself the printer displays a Par error, table mismatcherror, or hangs on initialization reload the code again.

Once the code has successfully loaded and the printer has reset itself, poweroff the printer.

Disconnect your cables and reconnect the customers cables.

On certain 475 and 500 lpm models you will need to set the shuttle speed.

On 1400 and 1500 lpm models you will need to set the coil temperature.

On all models you will need to run a test print and adjust the hammer phasing.

NOTE: If you need to flash the printer through the serial port you will needto follow these additional steps.
When you see "Waiting for Program Download" on the LCD press theScroll Up key. The display will now show "Select DownloadPort=Dataproducts".

Press the Scroll Up key to cycle through the available download ports.

When the display shows the download port you would like to use, press the enterkey.

The display should now show "Waiting Download/Port=" and the port youhave selected.

At the Dos prompt type:
MODE COM1:9600,N,8,1,P
filename.exe -pbc1

Continue with the flash download procedure.

I need the flash program for Printronix P5215. Can you please email the flash program? email:[email protected]

The flash program is also known as a driver I do believe
Here is that program in the link posted below

This other link below here is the MANUAL for your printer to keep on hand in your computer if needed. It takes a few minutes to download for it is large in size.

Ibm 6400-008 with P62 error

P-62 error is DC program not valid. The printer cannot find the controller program or the validation checksum is corrupt.
You can try to reseat the flash (memory simms) but it probably will not help. You need to re-download the program (microcode) to the machine and if it still fails replace the flash with pre-writen flash.

If you need a copy of the microcode and instructions on how to load let me know here (I will try to keep an eye on this post)

P62 error code

The IBM 6400 printer uses internal programming software that is specific to the printer based on installed interfaces and graphics options. This software resides in flash memory and when the printer is first powered on the software is executed. During this process it initializes the various processors on the controller board, initializes the optional interface cards, and then loads the necessary operating settings into dram. If the programming software becomes corrupt it will fail during startup, giving you the DC Program not valid error or a number of other error messages. The solution to this is a reflash of the printer. Unfortunately, the flash software is proprietary to IBM and they will not distribute it to anybody. The only way to get the printer reflashed is by calling IBM and having one of their engineers reflash the printer.

Wont print on line

You may need to have some driver installed on your PC, that can be downloaded from some IBM printer web site, such as this one:

http://www.infoprintsolutionscompany.com/internet/wwsites.nsf/vwWebPublished/supportdownloads_ww

IBM does not manufacture printers any more, they outsourced that to other places like Lexmark & ProPrinter, so we have to figure out which outsource place is relevant & what name they have for whatever corresponds to 6400 driver.
