Go to start/control panel and select 'Sound' (Audio)
See if it tells you there is/is no audio device fitted.
If not then there are no audio drivers installed. They are on the second reinstall disc supplied with the computer

If it tells you audio is installed then get back to me and tell me if you have ANY sound at all - such as when you boot up or shut down

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER SOUNDS BAD

download real player, if everything sounds good with real player, uninstall windows media player and reinstall it. If you keep reinstalling it ontop of itself the issue will not get fixed. Its probably a media codec issue.
