Question about Peachtree Software Peachtree Complete Accounting 2003

Using Peachtree Complete Acctg 2003 w/ Microsoft Vista

I keep getting "Cannot open file" error message when I try to change the options on a Chart of Accounts report. Didn't used to have these problems on my old computer. My new computer uses Windows Vista, and so I am assuming this is the problem.

The file not found is:
c:\users\spoondigger\appdata\local\temp\RStyle.dat

SOURCE: Peachtree first accounting 2007 income statement has incorrect %

Wow, that's a lotta percent... something is posting incorrectly, and could be for one of two reasons:

1. You could go to Tasks > Maintain > Company and go through the way the company's accounting is set up, but more than likely, it's #2.

2. Someone is posting journal entries and getting their debits & credits mixed up. That's something that unfortunately nobody can help you with unless they're physically there with you going over individual journal entries. I would suggest this: If there was a time EVER when the income statement was correct, GO BACK TO THAT. Then start printing journal entries from that point forward and make sure that all the amounts for each journal entry were correctly categorized as either a debit or a credit. All journal entries must zero out at the bottom. I don't think that Peachtree will even let you save a journal entry unless it's zeroed out. Good luck!!

User logon error for 2004

From quoted information from Peachtree's KB system:
Go to Task Manager by pressing the CTRL+ALT+DEL keys and on the Processes tab look for W32MKDE.EXE, click to highlight and choose End Task. If W32MKDE.EXE is not shown, close Task Manager.

Go to Start, Find or Search for conn*.* Be sure you are searching the DATAPATH for these files.

Select all connco and conndp files from your datapath and choose delete.

Since you are using Peachtree First R2004, you will then need to go to Start, Run, and type in PFA110.INI and hit enter. This will open it in Notepad.

Scroll down to the [Options] section and look for the line ShowStartup=No, change this to read ShowStartup=Yes.

Look for the line LastCompanyOpen=[company name] where [company name] would be your last company opened company name. Delete the FULL company name after the equal sign.

Look for the line LastCompanyOpenShort=[company short name] where [company short name] would be your last company opened Folder Name. Delete the company folder name after the equal sign.

Select File from the menu bar and choose Save. Close the ini file.

Open Peachtree and select one of the sample companies. After the sample company opens, select File, Open Company and open your company data.

How To Run Data Verification In Peachtree Accounting

Data Verification is a Peachtree utility that allows you to verify if any of your data files are missing or possibly damaged. During the verification process, Peachtree makes any needed changes so that your data records are compatible with Peachtree data formats. For example, if an ID in a data record has more than the maximum allowable characters, Peachtree will truncate the ID. Also, any files that Peachtree finds to be corrupt and unusable are deleted during the verification process.
Following verification, Peachtree generates a log that details all errors encountered and reports on any changes made, as well as any corrupt records deleted. Follow these steps to run the test:

In your company, from the Tasks menu select System, Change Accounting Period.

Highlight the first Accounting Period on the list and click OK.

From the File menu, select Data Verification.

Select the Both Tests (recommended) option from the menu and click Start.

You will be prompted to make a backup of your Peachtree data. This is a required step. Click Save. The data verification test will begin automatically when the backup is complete.

If no errors were found, click Close. If errors were found, you can examine the details of the tests by clicking the View Error Log button.

To change back to the current Accounting Period follow steps 1 and 2 above.

This issue may occur if you deploy Outlook 2003 with the Microsoft Office 2003 Custom Installation Wizard and specify a personal folder (.pst) file in the Windows Installer transform (MST file) by using the Default location for PST files path option. The problem occurs because you specify a file name instead of a folder path.

To resolve this issue for future installations of Office, use the Custom Installation Wizard to edit the MST file. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Change Office User Settings page (page 10 of 24), expand Microsoft Outlook 2003, expand Miscellaneous, and then click PST Settings.
  2. In the right pane, double-click Default location for PST files, and then type the path that you want in the Default location for PST files box. For example, type %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\.
  3. Click OK, and then follow the steps to complete the wizard. When you have corrected the MST file, deploy Office by using the correct MST file.
To resolve this issue for an existing installation of Outlook that is experiencing this problem, specify the .pst file by using the Mail icon in Control Panel.

Or If you are receiving and Err like
Error message when you start Outlook: "Unable to open the Outlook window," "No profile has been created," or "The list of Profiles cannot be loaded"Follow the step's below:This issue may occur on a computer that is running Windows XP if the Outlook.exe file was configured to open with the Windows program compatibility mode setting. When you set compatibility for Outlook to Windows 95 or to Windows 98/Windows Millennium Edition, Outlook displays this error message. This is because the location of the Outlook Profile information in the registry differs on a Windows XP-based computer.

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Locate Outlook.exe.

Outlook.exe is typically located in one of the following folders, depending on the version of Outlook that you are running:
    • Microsoft Office Outlook 2010 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
    • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
    • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 11
    • Microsoft Outlook 2002 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 10
    • Microsoft Outlook 2000 C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 9
  2. Right-click Outlook.exe, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Compatibility tab, click to clear the Run this program in compatibility mode for check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Try to start Outlook. If you receive error message again, use Method 2.

I am denied access to change the accounting period in peachtree

I've seen this before with peachtree. What happens every time you work on an accounting file peachtree locks the contents of the file. Occasionally the software never gets the chance to unlock it. This can happen if the computer shuts down unexpectedly, a file gets corrupted etc. You should find in your installation depending on the version a scan utility that can scan your accounting main file and see if there are problems and correct them. If not next try a re-install of peachtree and run the updates and try opening the file. Finally if not it is time to restore an update you have prior to the problem.
