Have you checked if both speakers are working? laptop volume isn't that great and if one speaker is out then it makes a world of difference.Could just be a loose connection to one of them

Check all sources of volume control, both the generic windows system tray icon and the one in Media player

I can't remember the password for my laptop (Compaq Presario CQ60)

if you have another pc or can use a friends you can download "Hirens Boot CD" it's free and you just need to burn it to a disk and boot from it. Once it boots up it has a lot of tools including one you can remove the password. If you need help using it you can google it there is plenty of information.

Overtime sound on computer decreasing.

Make sure that the sound source (iTunes, Youtube, etc...) is turned up, then check the speaker icon in your system tray (bottom right), and make sure not only that the sound is turned up for output and all the available options (CD, web browser, etc...), but also if your machine supports sound themes, make sure that it isn't on any kind of quiet preset.

If none of that helps, check that you're getting sound from both sides of the laptop. There might be a loose connection inside the machine. Also, if using headphones or external speakers, the jack will need to be plugged in all the way.

If you are using speakers that are not passive, they will need to be plugged into power, or the sound will be quite low.

How do I diagnose and fix my laptop's sound problem? Should I just throw it out the window?

From the description you have a hardware problem possibily caused by the ipod plugged into the headphone jack of the laptop. I'am convinced the sound section on the motherboard is damaged, probably the audio output ic. But to trouble shoot the problem will require someone with a strong background in electronics, I would suggest going no further until you have estimate in hand.

I've got a password on my laptop and have not been able to remember it now for months, I have an Acer Aspire 7730 which is approx 4 or 5 years old now can you please help.

Just re-install the software again and your are done with this issue. Use the recovery disc that came with the computer or use a new Operating System disc be sure it is Windows that originally came or compatible with your computer. Then you can start fresh without any password needed until you do another one, HINT: I use my last four digits of my social so that I will never forget my password ever.

The microphone in my HP laptop G60-235DX Notebook PC is not working suddenly....It was working before...Can u please send me the reason and send me how to rectify it

Check to see if its your driver settings first. Go to your control panal and then to sound options and look for your MIC tab. Run a test and see if it picks up anything or if the volume is low on the receptor.
Then try to connect an external microphone to your laptop and see if that works. You may end up having to use one if the onboard went bust

Does the Sony VAIO VGN-NR385E have an internal mic? How do I find out? Also, I've heard about people complaining about it not being plugged in internally. How do you rectify this?

It appears that this unit does not come with a built-in mic and relies on an external mic being plugged into it for audio input. It is sold as a low-end or "Budget" machine and doesn't have many "bells and whistles".

The sound is very low about 30% of what i would expect it to be, Can i do anything to increase it, thanks.

Notebooks are notorious for having very poor sound quality. In order to keep notebooks small and light, very small speakers are used, which results in very quiet output, with very poor sound quality.

Before giving up, check all of your sound settings. Go to Sound from the Control Panel and make sure that everything is set where it should be. Also make sure that the master volume is turned up, as well as the volume control in whatever program is providing your audio.

Outside of that, check out some nice headphones or external speakers, whichever works better for your situation.

Hope this helps. Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.
