To do this hob you dont take apart the back. You take the 2 screws out the corners of the control panel. Then it will pull forward and flip backward. Then you remove the 2 brass clips holding on the case and the whole case comes off the washing machine.

Whirlpool top load washer does not spin. Does

Hi, the likely problem here is a bad coupling. Here are the directions for a bad coupling. Kenmore's, Whirlpool's and Ropers are direct drive machines this means they don't have a belt. Instead the transmission is connected directly to the motor via a coupling. This is what a coupling looks like:
8fbd130.jpg To confirm this pull the machine forward enough that you can lean it back and it will stand back under it's own weight. Wedge something underneath the chassis so it does not fall on you while your accessing the bottom. Go under the Machine and locate the motor, You will see the pump connected to the motor connected to the transmission. 1. Unplug the wire harness from the motor then. 2. Use a screw driver remove the 2 clips holding the pump in place and remove or push the pump out of the way. 3. You will need to remove the 2 screws from the brackets holding the Motor in place with a nut driver. 4. With a screwdriver remove the 2 clips holding the motor in place (be careful to support the motor as the clips comes off) 5. remove the motor and drop it onto the floor. Now you will see the side on the motor the other side on the transmission the rubber connector in between. Replace the coupling if broken or worn and reassemble the washer in reverse order. Now you should be all set. Be aware you may smell rubber on the first couple loads this is normal after replacing a coupling.
If you have any other questions please feel free to comment. Mike

Top loading whirlpool model lsq9549pw2 will not spin

This is commonly caused by a broken motor coupling. If the washer fills and drains, but will not agitate or spin, the motor coupling is likely the cause. The coupling takes the place of a drive belt and couples the drive motor to the gearcase (transmission). This configuration is known as "direct-drive". The coupling can wear out due to normal wear and tear and easy to replace. The following link explains how:

This is a very inexpensive repair and its not difficult if you follow the steps provided. The newer replacement couplers are more resilient and resist breaking much better. The part number is included in the link I provided. You can purchase a replacement at for about $11. If you do not wish to order on line, take the part number and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. This is a very common part that they should carry in their in-store inventory.

If you have any questions about this repair, or if you need additional assistance, plese let me know. I hope you fin dthis information helpful.

Washer motor spins but the TUB does not (intermittent)

If the motor is running and the tub is not spinning you must remove the motor and inspect the drive coupling.
One of the 2 plastic pieces could be stripped or cracked.
If the drive coupling is intact, proceed to the clutch on top of the transmission.
Replace the clutch linings.
