Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

DI-524 wireless router set up

I have a D-link DI-524 wireless router, I know how to hook it up and I am able to get into the screen to change the defaults (password, user name etc.) but the problem is when I encrypt the signal the default for the WEP is 0000000000.  I don't know what I need to do to get past that section because once I encrypt the signal, I can find my new name for my network, but it says "unable to connect" to my own router.  I have to go and reset my router to default settings, and then I find my router and am able to connect again.  I need step by step help setting up this router encryption.  I am using a macbook, and running 10.4 o/s.  Thank you very much for your help!

Instead of using your WEP key say "Rosebud", use the hexadecimal value it creates instead. Enter it in all lower case. You should work find at that point.

How do I Reset My Password in My D-Link DI-524? I've Tried the 192.168.0.1, but Nothing Happens, just keep getting the Password Re-Set window

If you forgot your password, you can reset the router to it's factory defaults (You will lose all your settings/changes you made).

You can go here to see how to do it.

Below are my router suggestions:

Wireless Router

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below.

Things to set:

Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes.

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID.

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is not the security issue.

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

I originally had someone hook it hook up with cable. I moved and now want to hook it up with hughes net satelite but it doesn't seem to recognize the router. How do I hook up the D-link DI-524 to Hughes...

Hello.
First things first. Hook it up with the wires again to make sure it working like it was to begin with.

When that is working right, then we can focus on the wireless or the router.

A router has several ports to it: First is the power, the next is the IN cable from the modem. This will be offset from the rest of the ports. This is where the connection from the modem to the router goes. when you connect this, you should get a light on the router that indicates "Status"
Go here for an example of a connection chart: ftp://ftp10.dlink.com/pdfs/products/DI-524/DI-524_ds.pdf

The default IP address is 192.68.0.1 Connect (via wire) to the computer to set it up. Enter in the browser the default IP address and set up the router to your specifications for the Wlan (Wireless Local Area Network.)
Save your results.

I suggest that you DO NOT configure a password until after you get the signal working on your system. After that, re-enter the browser and do the following;
Change the last 2 octets to a different value: (Ex. 192.168.174.231 or something unique)
Have the SSID unique to identify your system when scanning for access.
set the security password to the highest level of the oldest equipment you have.
Nothing is fool proof, but having some security in place will make a thief go to another non protected router for an easier mark.

Good luck.

Need passphrase from D-Link router DI-524

1. if the default login never been modified b4, u can hook a network cable to the router, type "192.168.0.1" to enter the router config. Once inside, u can edit the password or disable it.
*U may prompt for username (admin) and passsword(empty).

2. If the default login has been modified and u r not able to enter the router config, u can just reset the router by inserting a pin to the small hole to get back the factory default settings. Then u can perform above step again to reconfigure your wireless router.

Not able to hook this router up

on the right track
connect modem to router WAN port
connect pc to modem LAN port by cable
DO NOT use wireless to configure router
http://192.168.0.1 is the address of the router
the admin name is 'admin' no quotes
the password is blank, not the word 'blank' a blank screen.. unless your sister changed it
read the online help
set an admin password
set a WEP encryption password

after config router can use wireless if prefer
NEVER make config changes by wireless

Cant connect

Hi purplegarion,

hook up the router per instruction in manual and your particular internet connection.  With the Di524 powered up, use the end of a paperclip to depress the reset button located in a little hole beside the power connection.   open internet explorer and type in 192.168.0.1 and press enter.  The password is admin. once th screen appears, click on Wizard.  Follow the wizards directions carefully.

For simplicity of security click on the wireless button while in the  wireless screen.  Set radio to on.  Enter a SSID like purplegarion. Set to open system.  Set Security to WEP.  Wep to HEX.  64bit.  Enter into Key one a 10 digit number you can remember like 1234567890.  Click apply.  Change your password to a personal password other than ADMIN.

Any device that attaches will need to enter the WEP 64 Bit hex Security key 1234567890, or whatever 10 digit number you put in the router.

Internet connection will require powering down you modem, and the DI-524 router.  power up the modem first and let it go through the start up, then power up thte DI 524.  you may need to make sure your DHCP is set to Automatically assign an IP address.
