It sounds like a power supply failure. Do you plug it straight into the walll or into a surge protector. If you are close to a best buy, go to geek squad they will diagnose the issue for free but the fix is real simple. Let's just put it this way there are a few things that protect the motherboard from getting fried. If it is the PSU u are looking at roughly 40-60 dollars and it is a matter of 6 connections. Emachines W2888 not turning on

Easy fix! Sounds like you bought a bad Power supply. Purchase an identical p.supply and it will run like a car!

Emachines W2888 will Not Start up

Most likely the system board has failed. If the power supply had blown it is not unusual for the subsequent spike to blow the system board. On the other hand it may have been the system board that failed and the PSU is ok. Emachine system boards are rubbish

Either way you will need a new board and most likely a reinstall of the OS

Sounds like intermittent power supply. Power supply not putting out required voltages.

W2646 crapped out

Some eMachines computers (like many from Dell) use a non-standard pin out for their power supplies, so if you try a standard ATX power supply it may not function.

However, in my experience it IS likely to be the motherboard. Luckly I have been able to replace quite a few of the eMachines mobos with a standard mATX mobo, since you can probably remove the IO plate. You'd certainly want to replace the power supply when doing so.

E-Machines 2862 Dead On Power-Up

I believe that the front button is not connecting to the switch for the power supply. Also make sure all internal connections are secure. Sometimes the button breaks from behind so that it cannot contact the switch. Let me know if it helps. There are other solutions if you tried this one first.
