I am trying to restore my laptop back to factory defaults, I have tried system restore but it wont work past a particular date. I have also tried holding f11 at startup and it recognises that i've pressed it and says system restore but just loads windows normally? Im running xp but the laptop came with windows 7. Any help greatly appreciated. :)
Go to Start/All Programs/HP Tools/HP PC System Recovery
If this doesn't work then try pressing the F10 key multiple times during the bootup to access the recovery console.
If this still doesn't get things fixed then you need to re-install XP

Perform a system recovery:
Acer computer's do not ship with recovery CD's - there is a program that allows you to burn the disks or recover.
3 ways to recover:
1. If in Windows - Start - Programs - Acer empowering technology - Acer E-recovery management -
click on Restore at bottom then "Restore to factory default settings"
2. Or click on Burn disks instead of Restore
3. If unable to boot into Windows then tap Alt/F10 during boot right after Acer splash screen when starting up the computer.
4. This will start the Acer E-recovery program - choose Factory Default Settings and follow instructions.

this sounds like a bad flash, when you went to update the laptop did you happen to download any bios firmware updates? if so it;s a bad flash and will need to be reflashed to fix it.

Right after you press the start (power on) button for the notebook, tap the F9 key about once every second (do NOT hold the button down, as this will cause the machine to think there is a problem with the keyboard, and generate a 303 KEYBOARD ERRER) to take you into the system repair subroutine. There should be an option for "Factory Restore", however, you'll may need to dig a little to find it. Once you select the factory restore option and the process begins, DO NOT interrupt the restore process at ANY time!!! (also, be sure the notebook is plugged in to an AC outlet, as battery power may not be sufficient for this task, and the restore process goes fast on AC power anyway.
