Canon MP730 Printhead Problems Column G does not print

POSTED BY margaret123 on Dec 26, 2007…. Pictures are not coming out good. When I do printer heads alignment , in column D and E there is nothing there.... ANSWER posted on Dec 29, 2007: Warning: This can be messy. Covering your counter or table and wearing throw away plastic gloves is strongly recommended. Take all the ink cartridges out. Wipe the rims of the ink ports and seal with tape or peel & stick label, to stop them from drying out and set aside. Flip up the plastic lever on the right side of the ink cartridge holder box. This will release the hold down mechanism that keeps the print head in solid contact with the electrical contacts at the back of the ink cartridge holder. Gently lift out the actual print head. You may have to gently use a straightened out paper clip to rock it out so you can get it with your fingers. Get a small plastic tub (cottage cheese or yogurt container) etc., and soak it in rubbing alcohol for an hour or two. Put enough over it to also soak the ink screens on the other side from the printing part of the head. Clean gently with a Q-tip and alcohol. Inspect the bottom side with a magnifying glass if available, and get any dried ink off. Change the alcohol and do this again until all ink is gone. Finally, shake the alcohol out over a newspaper (watch, it’s messy) and leave overnight to dry. Clean the gold dots with alcohol just before you put it back in. It is important not to touch the gold or the actual printing part of the print head. Put it all back together and run a few head cleanings thin a nozzle check. If the problem persists, call Canon and order a new print head. Approx. $60-70. Good luck.

MY PROBLEM IS: Columns B and J (in blue print) have definite vertical lines/vertical stripes; Column G does not show any print at all. I purchased and installed a new printhead and still have the same problem. Where do I go from here?

HTML clipboardIf you have lots of flashing error lights or electrical problems then it is likely to be electrical.

However, if like most... and your printer has just been left unused for some time?

Then provided it worked OK before a period of non-use? You just need to use a PRINT HEAD CLEANING KIT to unclog the tiny jets.
A Magic Inkjet Flush Kit usually works a treat on those!

Magic is ideal for unclogging the tiny jets on any Canon, Epson HP and removing those horrible white lines which usually appear in prints when dried ink clogs several jets...

So if yours appears to be a clog? all you should need to do is to use the Magic Inkjet Flush kit to soak the print head and you should be printing again like new.

You are covered by a 30 day money back guarantee if not.

Good Luck!

SOURCE: Canon MP950 - strong black line on back side of the paper

The problem is most likely your ink catcher, it is a sponge that catches any ink when it is being cleaned. you need to remove it and clean it then put it back in. there will be instructions in your manual.

SOURCE: Canon MP360 not printing

You probably need a new purge assembly, it draws some ink to both clean and prime the printhead. When it stops working you won't get any ink to the paper.

SOURCE: Most of Group 1inks,(except red) won't print

Over on the right is not waste ink pads, waste ink is under the print engine covering the whole bottom of the printer. On the right is the purge assembly and there is ink on the filters on top and on the squeegee that wipes the printhead. You may need a new purge assembly, or just re attach a hose in the purge unit that may have come off. That printer is well worth the repair...

Try reseating the printhead. Remove the ink cartridges, lift up the lock lever and then pull the printhead out at an angle (IIRC). Then reinsert the printhead and lower the lever. Then reinsert the ink tanks one by one; Press down until you hear the click. Close the scanning unit and hit Set to print the alignment page. Tell the printer which line in each column has the best print quality (most solid); this is the horizontal alignment. Then repeat for the vertical alignment.

Try resetting the printer (on/off cycling). If this doesn't work, you may need a new printhead. Unfortunately, this may not solve the problem and you may need to have the unit serviced. Printheads are not returnable once you install them (so if replacing it doesn't help, you are stuck with the spare.)

Good luck. I hope this helps.

Canon Multipass MP730...placed new ink cartridge in twice now...nothing be printed...what could the problem be?

For me, there can be 3 problems, and I will do what I do in order.

1. The print head may be clogged. To unclog it, you have to remove the 4 cartridges, remove the print head (lever up, and remove the printhead), run those silvery things under a luke warm tap and low flow and pressure for about 5 minutes or until no ink drips out, and dont aim for those silvery things, do not touch the contacts on the back. Install the printhead, cartidges, lever down and go for it.

2. Well still no results... Get the printhead out of there again as your machine is getting old and tarnished. Get a sharp knife. Stroke down on those contact things downward only with your knife, a couple of columns at a time, couple of strokes per column. Put everything back, lever down, and go for it.

3. A new print head $50. Sounds a lot, but the last cartridges were $1.69 a pop. These cartidges last quite some time, as long as you fire something through the printer each week. This has to be the most economical bubble jet printer in the world. I have 3 of them.

Mp730 will not print black to copy or to receive by fax...i have replaced the ink cartridge...but no luck...

Providing that you ripped off the seal and put your black cartridge and put your cartridge in correctly, the most likely thing is the printhead. Remove your cartridges, remove the printhead by grasping the sides of it (thumb and index fingure) and under a tap of slow warm water for about 5 minutes or earlier if the water dropping off the bottom is clear, and dont aim at those silvery things. Give it a tip and a filck to get the water off, and never touch those contacts on the back. Put everything back, lever down, and hopefully things start working. If unsuccesful, the next step, prior to buying a new printhead is using a knife stroking downward on the carriage contacts (the ones that your printhead pushes up against) a couple of scrapes per column. This last thing for me is usually related to what I will call a **** back where for example the yellow cartridge sucks up blue ink (that is drooling on the bottom of the print head), and I have a number of disbelievers, but I have this more than 5 times. The last, is to pony up $50 for a new printhead.

My Canon Multipass Mp730 says wrong cartridge and the alarm light is blinking. I changed the cartridge, but it's still the same message. I turned it off and unplugged it, still the same message. It won't...

I have the identical problem. After talking with the Canon Service Center here in Arizona, they stated that the problem is with the Printhead, not the ink cartridges. The choices are to buy a new Printhead, which are very hard to find now, or buy a new printer. I found one last Printhead in Tucson, which I can purchase of $50.00, and install it myself. Otherwise, the Service Center can do it for the price of the part, plus $65.00 labor.

Seems like the logical solution is to buy a new printer. The PIXMA MX330 is $99.00 or the PIXMA MX860 is $199.00, which are similar replacements.

I am leaning toward purchasing a new printer. We've had the MP730 for about 5 years.

Canon mp 730 prints colours BUT NO BLACK

Sounds like you need a printhead, QY6-0064-000 around $40.00. The only other thing that could do that is the purge assembly if it's not cleaning the black part of the printhead properly.

Canon MP730 not printing. Printhead cleaning doesn't help.

You may need new print heads. They are around $50. Or, you could do this: Take the print head out of the printer, and run warm water from the tap (not high pressure), over the ports for about 5 minutes. Ink will drop out of the jets. Dont touch the electrical contact end of this head. This may clean the head enough so it works again. If not you need a new print head.
