Iogear KVM Switch Not Working at All

I hooked my new Iogear 2-port switch up & couldn't even get an indicator light. I called Iogear & he told me it was a bad switch. I took it back & got another one. No luck. I'm using Vista one one & XP on another.

Any suggestions before I throw in the towel?

I called IOGear twice. I finally got someone who had a solution. He told me to use all of my USB connections whether I needed to or not. I did & it worked! Thanks everyone for your help!

Jerk_shop is correct, the GCS632U does get the power it needs to function from the USB ports of the computers it is attached to. Make sure the USB portion of the KVM cable is plugged directly into a computer without the use of any USB to PS/2 adapters. You will also want to make sure that at least one computer is turned in order for this KVM to function.

I have a new 2 port IOGear KVM. The monitor disconnects periodically. This happens no matter which computer I am using with the switch.

That sounds like it could be an internal problem. but i couldn't know without taking a look. If its new switch I would suggest returning, or RMAing it. I hope I could help.

New IOGear GCS632U KVM inop

First, disconnect the KVM switch from the computer(s). Disconnect also the keyboard and mouse from the KVM switch, including speakers (if there is). Leave the KVM disconnected for 5 minutes.

Before you reconnect the KVM switch, make sure that the computers are turned off. Re-connect the KVM switch to the computers, and then reconnect the keyboard and mouse.

Turn on the first computer, followed by the second one. If you are still not getting any light indicator, then the KVM switch is dead.

You may contact IOGEAR through 866-946-4327.

Thank you for using FixYa!

IOgear KVM not working with laptop

First, you have to make sure that the KVM switch is directly connected to your laptop, and NOT to a docking station.

This KVM switch is designed to work with direct connections to the computers.

Second, the light indicator on the KVM switch is not an indicator for power. It's an indicator to see which port is active. If your laptop is connected to port 2, but the focus of the KVM is in port 1, then the port 1 will have a light, not the port 2.

You may also refer to the user manual of the KVM.

Thank you!

IOGear (GCS632U) 2-port KVM Switch problem. All functions well it seems after connecting for first time Mac Mini and XP Windows Dell PC except when switching to Mac I get a blank dark screen. Another side...

The IOGEAR GCS632U is designed to work with VGA computers and monitors. Using the Mini DVI to VGA adapter is not guaranteed to work with this KVM switch.

The Mini DVI to VGA adapter can only convert the port, but it does not have an ability to convert the signal from digital to analog when it's connected to the KVM switch.

What you need to have is a DVI to VGA SIGNAL converter. Unfortunately, I don't have a model number handy, so I would suggest to contact IOGEAR, because I'm sure that they already have a work around with this issue.

Thank you and good luck!

Hooked up a iogear cgs62 wont allow me to log onto

II had one of those with no problem at all other than many KVM's dont allow you to use some of the many extra keys you get on some of the better keyboards. If thats what you mean by connect to internet then its a common drawback of cheaper end KVM's even some of the better ones dont support fancy keyboard buttons.

GCS62 - both computers must be on for this thing to work?

It seems that you KVM switch is not working properly. computers connected to a KVM switch are not dependent to each other. you should be able to work on any of your computers while the others were turned off.

KVM unresponsive

Greg,

Try swapping the KVM cables from the 2008 computer into the Vista computer and see if the problem follows the 2008 computer. This KVM gets the drivers it needs from the OS and the IOGear web site does not show any support for 2008.
