Is it the smaller water hose from the heater core? Coming from the firewall behind the engine? The metal fitting on the water pump will have to be replaced. Some are threaded and screw in. Others are press fitted, If a shop can get to the fitting where it is, they might fix it easily. Otherwise, you may need to have the pump removed, and a new fitting installed, or hey, a good time to replace the pump.
Good luck.

I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan 3.3 L that requires what sounds like a similar repair. Using phosphorescent die I traced the leak to a gasket between the engine block and what appears to be a housing for the water pump, though it is much larger than the pump and odd shaped. The water pump isn't leaking as far as I can tell. Can anyone explain this one to me? I want to do this repair myself but have don't know if I'm getting in deep with this one.

Make sure it's cool, pop the radiator cap, Remove the shield on the passenger side between the tire and front of engine. Relieve the tension on the serp belt, draw yourself a diagram of the pulleys and belt routing in case the sticker is gone on the strut tower, remove the serp belt. Take the bolts out of the pulley on the front of the water pump (3). Remove the lower radiator hose at the front cover to drain the coolant. Remove the 6 mm bolts holding the water pump to the front cover housing. tap on the pump with a rubber hammer. Install a new gasket on the new pump, and a weap hole diverter in the pump (round black about hte size of a quarter), use old one if there's no new one. Install pupm and tighten bolts snug with a 1/4" ratchet. Install pulley and 3 bolts. Install belt, top off radiator with 50/50 mix green coolant. start engine and run to operating temperature, make sure the belt is seated in all of the pulleys and is running true, radiator fans should come on. Shut engine down and let cool overnight. Check level in radiator and overflow bottle, top off as necessary.

2006 dodge grand caravan replaced thermostat and radiator, still no heat?? And the van is running hot

How hot is the engine in degrees F? With a fully warmed engine are the heater hoses, hot? Check coolant flow through the heater core. If no coolant flow through the heater or engine, I'd have to check water pump.

Sometimes when the cooling system is opened, it may get air in the system, your temp gage may be reacting to air in the system?

Im over heating bad

Hi Jillian,
Assuming it is not related to improper servicing, it could simply be a LOW coolant level, stuck thermostat, loose/failed drive belt or a failed water pump. The ease & expense of repair increases from minimal amount for low coolant level to the most costly being the failed water pump. There are other possible causes including clogged radiator, hose, etc. but those problems don't happen as frequently as those I listed.
Reghardless of cause, you should NOT drive the vehicle while in an overheated condition as this can cause a *very* expensive engine repair.
Good luck!

How do i change the water pump on a 2000 dodge, grand caravan

Removing and changing the water pump on a 2000 Grand Caravan should only be done if your van has a 3.3 liter or 3.8 liter V6 engine. On any other engine types, including four-cylinder engines, you must remove the timing belt from the engine to access the water pump, which is a dangerous task that can mess up the engine if attempted by an amateur.
The procedure is as follows:------------- The water pump is responsible for sending the engine coolant to the engine.First of all remove the serpentine belt then remove the plastic cove on the passenger side behind the wheel. You will have to remove the pulley. Once the pulley is removed unbolt the water pump and remove it. Clean the surfaces and install new pump. Draining the coolant and replacing it is advisable.
Drain the engine coolant, twisting and removing the drain plug at the bottom of the radiator
-------------------Thats it.

Repair water pump 91 dodge caravan

replace? disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, remove the serpentine belt, drain the radiator, remove the upper radiator hose to let the coolant drain from the engine, remove the hoses on the pump, remove the bolts holding the water pump on (if you're not sure which one, look at the belt diagram in the engine compartment on the passenger side. keep in mind, some coolant will still be in there), remove the pump (may need to knock it loose. do not use a screwdriver to pry it off. this will damage the metal and will not make a proper seal), gently remove all of the leftover seal from the engine, replace the seal and the pump, hand tighten all of the screws, then tighten them down, replace the hoses, fill the radiator with a 50/50 mixture of antifreeze and water, reconnect the battery, start it up. top off the radiator if necessary. put some extra in the overflow tank.

2004 Dodge Grand Caravan Water pump

If it's red, it's transmission fluid. Coolant would be green. Check the fluid level, don't let it get low, Chrysler minivans are prone to transmission troubles, and low fluid levels over time will ruin a a transmission. And be sure not to overfill, it's just as bad for the trans. Have the leak checked out and repaired, good luck
