I have vertical stripes on my Imac lcd. I went to an Apple store and they told me the problem is on the graphic board and affects the display. How can I fix this problem? Can I do some tests to the computer to be sure where the problem comes from? thanks, ana

I have over 100 vertical lines on my 17" imac. Since it is out of warranty, Apple doesn't want anything to do with it except to tell me it needs a new LCD panel with an estimated replacement cost of $700. Can I hook up another monitor (non-Apple) and have it work? And what cables do I need if it can happen?

Vertical stripes on start up

Unfortunately, vertical stripes, most likely 2 inch wide, are indicative of GPU failure. The failure is cause by the GPU slowly detaching itslef from its mountings. This process made more common by the introduction of lead free solder. IF its under warranty... take it to Apple, if not, it's doomed. There are fixes available know as 're-flows' or re-balls' .. whilst these are different processes entirely, neither is a sure fix, and neither, if it works, are guaranteed to last more than a few months.

Imac continuosly goes to sleep

Go into System Prefs, Energy Saver and disable sleep for hard drives and display. If it still appears your computer is going to sleep, this may be a display problem, being caused by logic board, actual display or graphics card, all requiring a trip to the apple store for service.

Thin yellow vertical line

Linear defects of this sort can be caused by a faulty display cable, a faulty LCD panel, or a faulty connector between the two. Much less likely is a problem with your graphic processor, since the line is static in appearance and position. Unless your Mac guy has lots of spare parts hanging around, I would suggest you replace the cable first, as it is the least expensive fix. If that doesn't do the job, then the display panel must be replaced.

I have an iMac (version 10.4.11)....and have the vertical line problem. There are two thin vertical lines on the left side of the screen and a pink line down the middle of the screen. Is this problem...

the lcd is bad,for some strange reason this is becoming common with Imacs.I recently repaired about 30 with the same problem. The techs at apple wont say why this is hapening they prefer to replace parts. In your case you will have to replace the lcd display and the cable from the display to the logicboard and not the logicboard.
Good luck

Inch wide vertical white band on my Imac screen?

If the white band appears right from start up, the display needs to be replaced, if it comes on after it starts, it is most likely a software problem.

IMAC lcd vertical colored stripes

First, plun a external monitor and toggle the screen with ALT+F5. This will determine if you have a hardware or software problem (drivers, configuration, etc).
If the image in the external screen is correct then the problem is in the LCD panel or its cabling.
Here you can get the replacement LCD panel and change it yourself.
