Question about Intel i865PE (KD865PERLK) Motherboard

1 Answer

Computer virus I believe I have a virus on my computer. My computer virus protection ran out and I procrastinated and got a virus before i bought more protection. It started off that my computer was showing errors and freezing up. Then it would not start up at all. It would finally start up in safe mode but I have this gen clock warning that comes and to press the insert key. I am not sure what that means. I went into to setup and made sure everything was set to what the manual has displayed but this gen clock warning would not go away. I looked further into the manual and saw that i could clear the CMOS jumper. I did this not really understanding what it would do. Whatever it did it allowed me to finally boot up my computer. I was able to boot up normally and was trying to figure out how to clear the hard drive and start over. However it kept freezing up and now it won't start up at all. I keep getting the code C1 as to why the computer fails to boot. Which according to the appendix of the instruction manual the code means detect memory. Auto detection of DRAM size, type and ECC. Auto-detection of L2 cache socket 7 or below. This is all great but I am not sure what to do. I just want to wipe my computer clean and start all over but right now I can not get the computer to boot up. Can you tell how to get the computer to boot up and how to erase the hard drive?

    Hey Richard,
Thanks for your response. The computer won't boot up atall. It either stays in reserved mode or code C3 Expand and compressedBios codes to DRAM appear or C1 detect memory and the computer neverboots up. I read somewhere else this could mean I have bad caps orleaking caps. Could this be true? Or do you think it has to with thevirus? Do you have any solutions on how to get the computer to boot?
I can not figure out how to sign in to reach just you.

Sorry about that but what you should know is most often antiviruses makes computers slower when installed. they are useful but they also have cons and one of them is the consuming a lot of ram lagging the computer, i suggest if you have 1gb of ram or less please remove that antivirus and get a portable small protective piece of software like COMODO just to protect your system and minimize usage of removable media like flash disks. this will help you alot trust me. for web browsing install browser based apps that can protect you online from viruses like Web Protect for mozira

Computer turns itself off and on, and it runs dog slow

Could be a virus. I had a similar one, and I had to format harddrive and install windows from scratch (was not recoverable). if you can get logged into windows, go to microsoft and download their free virus protection. if not, go buy a new emachine.

Does verizon have a anti virus for windows xp for verizon customers

In most cases some company's will supply you with an Anti-Virus software program to protect you computer, but I do not believe that to be the case here. If you have internet with Verizon, which I'm going to guess and say yes since you mentioned them specifically, they are not at all required to give you that type of program in any means. Usually computers when bought from a store, will have a years subscription to say Norton or a similar program, but it's up to the owner to either buy or obtain anti virus programs, not the retailer. I would suggest if you are looking for an anti virus program, to either use Avira Anti Virus, or AVG. You can download either of these for free @ www.filehippo.com. Also just to note there are a few other programs that are worth mentioning to help with virus', malware, and spyware, and general "house keeping" on your computer that can also be downloaded for free from filehippo. Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, Super Anti Spyware, Ccleaner, Defraggler. These are great programs to keep your computer safe and clean. :) hope this helps

My computer is broken

If you give us some additional information, we might be able to help you. What make and model of computer? How old is it? What do you mean by broken? Did you drop it and physically damage it, or were you surfing on some dubious websites without proper virus protection and now your computer is clogged with trojan horses or virus?
Sometimes even the better brand name antivirus will not protect your computer if you download and run a program from a untrustworthy site. Believe me, I've been there and done that.
Give us the specifics and we will try to help you.

My grandkids have went to sights, now i get message that someone or something is trying to attack my computer but norton 360 blocked it. My question is I have bought another dell desktop pc and want to put...

Hi,

You don't have to worry about the attack being transferred to the new computer because they will both have a different IP address.

Providing you protect your computer with a good antivirus software like you are already using then you should be fine although no computer is 100% safe from attacks and viruses.

Norton 360 provides decent internet security plus some attacks are dependant on the site you visit. It's all about being vigilant and protecting your computer the best you can.

Regards.

I had a virus on my Toshiba Satellite M45-S165 PC notebook. I had Webroot spy an virus protection. I did multiple full scans and it did not remove the virus. I then noticed that there was a newer version...

If you would like to have Vista, then I suggest going to Walmart or Bestbuy and buying Vista. Research the different types of Vista to see which is right for you. With the Vista disc you won't have this problem with the install. At this point I don't believe you can go any further unless you have an operating system disc and you don't really want to run 98. You've already got the new hard drive, you might as well do it right with what you want.

Can't find virus protection program

The ones that come free with purchase are generally a trial offer and you will have to pay for future protection.

AVAST FREE is the best Anti-Virus I've seen, once you register by e-mail they send you an activation code and it is done

Besides, I'm a firm believer of free.
