Kenmore Ultra Wash Dishwasher Growing Mold

We have had our dishwasher for about 5 years and in the last two months it has been growing mold everywhere. We cleaned it out and within a week it was back. The mold is even in the sprayer arms. I noticed that the steam is not coming out of the vent anymore but the vent is not clogged. Plus this dishwasher has an airdry feature which means that it would not vent anyway. Have you ever heard of a dishwasher growing mold like this?

I have a Frigidaire dishwasher and have the same problem. It gets worse with time and cleaning does not help. It just comes back. I believe Frigidaire makes the Kenmore brand.

SOURCE: mold growing on dishes

Recommend that you run another cycle with no DW soap aded, waiting until the dishwasher has filled with hot water and begins to do the first wash cycle. Then add 1/2 cup of bleach to the water and close the door. Allow the cycle to finish. Run it normally with a standard load of dirty dishes. Note: These high efficiency dishwashers count on the "dirt" of the dirty dishes to help wash/clean the dishes. Recommend you not rinse/wash the dishes before you put them in the dishwasher.

Watch for any occurrence of the black dots and repeat the bleach treatment.

Foul odor on dishes and in dishwasher after cycle

It is very likely that your dishwasher is growing mold, in this condition. If it is causing your dishes the same issue, it may be wisest to obtain a dishwasher cleanser(Several detergent manufacturers now sell dishwasher cleaning items), which will hopefully kill off any mold colonies growing in your dishwasher's blades, and in your drain cap.

Put a bowl filled with 2 cups of clorox on the lower rack and run a wash cycle (nothing else in the machine) this will kill the mold spores in the machine, and clear the smell.

New Bosch dishwasher mold before cycle

The Bosch is a very good dishwasher and it is very airtight. I would suggest you NOT leave the dishes inside that long, and always use the Power Scrub Plus cycle if you have it. It will get the water as hot as possible so mold does not continue to grow in the plumbing and filters.

It is NOT the dishwasher unit causing the problem.

G'day, I have a Miele Dishwasher and I have only had one small problem with it in the 12 years I have own it. That was due to moving house, a bit of fluff had moved and was blocking an outlet. once cleaned with a brush it now works like new again. Best dishwasher on the market, made to last 20 years.
