Picking memory cards for dv-5200 digital camcorder

You can't make the DCR-HC42 work with an SD card. This camcorder uses DV tapes, or Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Pro Duo memory cards.

You might have bought the Micro SD Card. Your camcorder's memory stick is either a SD Card (the standard size, not the Micro) or a MMC Card. See pictures below:

In the English/German version, see page 87. The flash memory used with this camcorder is the Sony Memory Stick. A Secure Digital (SD) memory card will not fit and will not work with this camcorder.

There are two way to upload your picture's or video's to your pc:

1. You can upload video to the use of your camcorder connector. Connect your USB cable to your camcorder and plug it to your computer. You need to turn on your camcorder so that it will be recognized by the computer.
2. You can upload also your video's with the use of memory card reader. Remove your memory card from your camcorder and insert it to the card reader. Plug the card reader to the computer. The computer will recognized the card. Now you can upload your photo's or video's.

If it is one of the SD or MMC memory cards, they generally have a small sliding switch on the side that locks the drive from having files deleted or changed in any way.

According to the samsung website " Samsung camcorders manufactured in 2004 and later can be used with memory sticks up to 1GB. Anything over 1GB is not guaranteed to work. "

I have the same problem. Video works fine on my 256MB card but not on my 4GB or 8GB cards. It would be nice to know if anyone has success with a particular card >1GB.

I think its just a warning message but it shouldn't stop you from recording to tape.

If you can pick one up and install it in the camera, that will get rid of it.

It should take SD cards. They can be anywhere from 64mb to 2 gig in size. You should use the high speed cards as well such as a San Disk Ulra II. Standard cards may cause quality issues.

hi, The memory card can only handle still pictures and in some model low quality email clips can be recorded. For video capture the latest camcorders are providing high speed USB 2 transfer.But for older models you need to get it done with the help of firewire card. If you want to capture your video you can either buy a firewire card(can easily purchased from computer accessory shops,low cost) and plugin to pci slot of your PC,else if you have a DV port you can connect to that with a dv cable (which can be purchased from all camera stores).The camcorder is provided with a 1394 port to which you can connect the cable from firewire card.
