This is a split cabinet and you have to remove the rear section of the cabinet. take top of undo all bolts holding rear cabinet plus one bolt each side at bottom underneath a blank and two bolts at rear bottom of machine. sounds difficult but in fact is easy

I think the drive belt has gone as the motor sounds as if it is spinning but the drum isnt moving. How easy is it to fit a new drive belt?

I haven't worked on a Zanussi yet but usually once the top has been removed replacing the belt is a fairly straightforward and intuitive process - it is removing the top that tends to be the difficult part.

I expect washer-driers would be more difficult but so far I have managed to avoid those.

How do i fit a new belt

Replacing the belt on your machine is pretty easy. You will first need to take the top off. Depending on the model of your machine, there are either 2 screws at the rear of the machine that hold the lid on, or there is a screw at either side of the lid, about 3 inches back from the front, hidden under a couple of oval plastic covers about the size of your little finger nail (Note, these are torque "star" screws). Remove the screws and give the lid a sharp tap backwards with the heel of your hand to unclip it from its fixings. The lid will now lift off. Now go to the back of the machine and remove the lower oval cover (about dinner plate sized) that is held on by about 6 screws. This reveals the empty pump and the end of the motor drive shaft.

From the top of the machine, dangle the belt down and lasso the drive shaft of the motor, move the belt to the centre of the slotted shaft (you should see where the original belt was, because that section of the pulley will be shiny.

Now take the belt in one hand and holding the contact side of the belt (grooved side) against the large pulley wheel that drives the drum, slowly spin the drum pulley by hand, holding the belt in place where you first made contact with the drum with one hand, while guiding the belt on to the drum at the bottom of the pulley as you slowly spin it. The belt will stretch and after one full turn it will be in place. Now just check that the belt is in the correct position on the drum and motor pulley by spinning it a few rotations by hand.

OK, Job done. Now for the bad news. Drive belts just DO NOT "come off" or break on good machines. They come off because there is a fault. The really bad news here is that the usual reason is that the main bearings on the drum have failed causing the drum to "flop about" and causing the belt to dislodge. You should really check the bearings of your drum before you go buying a new belt, because if they have failed then the cost of repair will potentially write the machine off. Below are my standard instructions about checking bearings. Please let me know how you get on.

My Zanussi fls 1183 is not washing the clothes, they are not completely wet and are not clean

This usually means that the drum is not rotating during wash or spin.

If this is the case the most common causes are a broken drive belt or the motor brushes worn out

Always remove the plug before investigating

Drum does not agitate water goes in and it just humms, no agitation or spin

The drive belt is broken or the motor's rotor is stuck. Open the door and rotate the drum manually. The drive belt is worn or broken if you can freely rotate the drum. The rotor is most probably stuck if you cannot turn the drum.

Visual check can be done by removing the back panel. Remove the screws holding it to the cabinet and pull it off. Replace the belt if it is worn or broken. Simply wrap it around the drive motor pulley and on one side of the drum pulley. Rotate the drum pulley in such a way that the belt completely wraps around it.

Try to free the rotor if it's stuck by lubricating it and forcibly turning it back and forth until it turns freely. To remove the motor, disconnect the motor wiring harness and ground wire from the terminals and remove the mounting bolt. Pull the motor out of the mounting slots. To reinstall or replace, simply slide it back into the mounting slots and secure it with the mounting bolt.

In some cases, the drum will not spin due to a broken drum pulley. Post it back if that is the case.

My zanussi washer dryer wjs 1397 w drum is not turning

It is most likely that the drive belt is broken and needs repalcing, If you remove the rear panel it will be obvious if it has broken *** there will be a lrge flywheel attached to the drum and no drive belt going to the motor, near the bottom of the machine. These are easy to obtain from any domestic appliance spares store or mail order. They are also very easy to fit.If the drive belt is in place and is reasonably tight (taught) then you may have an issue with the motor. clutch or brake.

Drive belt out of alignment

check pulley is fully bolted home. also fault could be due to the bearing spider (on the drum) being broken or cracked on one leg. if this was so, would expect spin with clothes to be very noisy. get gack to me if you want. the belt is a stretchy belt ie no adjustment for tightness

Drum is not moving

It sounds like the drum drive is broken ... could be a belt at the back of the machine or it could be gear driven ... most likley a belt... take off cover on back of machine to see if the belt is broken and replace if necessary. Also could be pump but that is probably the last thing to go wrong pumps rarely ever fail.
