Connect my Acer monitor to my digital cable box.

Not sure what your cable box outputs but connect your cable box to a tv and try changing the resolution of your cable box to 1600x900 or less if there is such a setting; the monitor will not display resolutions higher than 1600x900

I have changed the screen size to 16 x 9. There is black space at the top and bottom of the screen. What do I do to correct this?

Hi welcome to Fixya,
Presently there are 16 formats (sizes) transmitted and you may need to hit a button to show a full screen sometimes on some channels. The format , aspect or size buttons are on both the TV remote and any cable / dish remote you have . set the TV to full or 16x9 if using a cable / dish box, then set the box to the stretch mode and the picture should be full, there may also be a zoom setting that will fill the picture but may cut off the edges.
Respond with more details or try the suggested settings
Thanks
Roety

I have just installed a Acer LCD #X223W moniter. What do I need to do to get my speakers to work with it? Is there a missing port or do I need a new cable. This moniter has a HDVi cable but the Computer...

Did you give the correct model of the Acer monitor you have?

When I looked up the X223W monitor, I see a monitor with a DVI-D port and VGA port. Only the VGA cable is usually included in the box. If your computer has a VGA port (most older computers that came with only the video chip on the motherboard), you can either use the VGA cable or get a VGA to DVI adapter and use a DVI-D cable (purchase separately). Alternatively, check the specs of your power supply and available card slots and buy a new video card with a DVI port. If you have only a DVI port on your computer, get the DVI cable (the VGA to DVI adapter would work but isn't a good option).

If I read the specs correctly, this monitor doesn't have speakers. You should plug your speakers into the audio out of your computer. If you use the on-board audio you will see at least two jacks (microphone/line in) and audio out (speakers). Many audio cards and some motherboards come with additional jacks for surround sound so check your system information. Audio extension cables are a cheap solution if the speaker cables are too short to reach to your computer.

I hope this helps.

Numbers 2.4.4-16 appear on the bottom of screen(alternate sides)

this same problem was on my grandma's television once she got a cable box recently. she has time warner cable. we called time warner and explained this to them, and they said it was something with the update.. and the lady said you can reset the box, but it is best for the cable company to reboot the cable box. within a matter of minutes, the company reset her box and the numbers were no longer an issue. so it's just a matter of resetting your cable.

Television

I'm assuming that you have a new widescreen tv. Your screen or cable box is currently set to 4:3 resolution. If you're using a cable box, you'll need to go into it's menu and change it to widescreen 16:9 format. It really depends on which type of cable box that you have. If you aren't using a cable box then you need to go into your tv's video settings and change those to 16:9 or stretch-to-fit. Please provide more information (make/model) of your cable box so that I can provide more detailed information. Good luck!!

Connecting dvi cable straight to acer monitor

The cable box is probably outputting a resolution the monitor is not compatible with. Computer monitor and television resolutions are usually different, and not cross compatible in some cases.

For example, wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect ratio, while TV is usually 16:9 aspect.

The AL2216wbd is a 1680x1050 display, while HD TV is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080).

If your cable box is set to 1080i that would be too high for the monitor. You will need to set it to output at 720p, and even then you will probably get a vertically stretched picture since the monitor has a taller aspect.

Screen Size

When you are using the DVI connection on this unit it will automatically set the aspect ratio. There is no way to force it into stretching the picture as it will with other input sources. The only way to get to fullscreen would be to go into the setup menu on your cable box and set the "4:3 override" option to one that will meet your satisfaction. I'm having issues with this one skewing the picture to the left on DVI input. I'll crack it open one of these days to see if there are some adjustments that I can mess with on the inside. If there is anything further I figure out, I'll repost.
