Question about Canon XM2 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Canon XM2 Hi I own a Canon XM2 which has developed a problem with its zoom function. The zoom buttons do not work and it has started to sporadically zoom to its closest point and stick there. Any assistance very much appreciated. Thanks Steve

the main zoom buttons result in sporadic zooming, the zoom on the handle works fine, perhaps theres some dust in the main zoom button

You might have bad contact in zoom switch unit or a short in zoom switch. The switch assembly is replaced for the remedy.

The zoom stopped working. does anyone know what to do?

This is the power zoom control?
Could be a burnt out servo motor that does the work.
I think there's no way out but a repair shop.

The zoom control of my cannon xm2 does not work

This is most likely a defective zoom rocker switch assembly and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

I have xm2 canon, and I can't find the night vision mode on it.

I do not believe XM2 or GL2 does not have night vision mode. You may achieve little using video gain control. We all know Sony has the night vision modes which have been popular feature. James

only way to use zoom function in sx100 is by using CHDK software on sd card, you can zoom in/out it actually makes ur camera perform better then som dv camcorder.

Zoom won't work

I have had the exact same problem develop with the A530- now twice!

The first time I had to send it back to Canon to fix it. According to the repair summary, what they replaced was, well, the entire control board...not many things breaking can cause the entire zoom/buttons to stop functioning aside from a control board malfunction of some sort.

Anyways, Canon fixed the camera, everything was hunky dory.

For six months. Then the problem developed again. When the same problem occurs twice in a row without any warning whatsoever, that's when I start getting annoyed and consider buying another camera.

So at least in my case, the solution to the problem was that it had to go back to Canon for repairs. I had an extended warranty on my camera, so I can't say how much it will cost to repair the problem. If it happens again like it did in my case...consider buying another camera.
