There are several things that must be uninstalled in order to remove symantic. I suggest you try using a program called Revo Uninstaller. It is freeware and is a much more powerful removal tool than the program that is included in Windows.

yes this is typical of norton for this, what you need is the norton removal tool, download it from here:
http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Norton-Removal-Tool-Download-26173.html
don't forget to save the product key just in case you need it
