Potentially, yes. Secure your router by adding in a WEP code. Secure your computer with a firewall, and don't share out hard drives etc..

I can't use up my new fivespot without the usb cord to connect to the internet on my HP laptop? any ideas?

Found a workaround and wrote it up here, copied below:

(The tech professional version: Connect to the WiFi hotspot on another computer. Visit 192.168.0.1 with 'admin' as the password and change the encryption mode to WEP. Enter a passcode, then apply. Restart the Fivespot. Connect from your device using the passcode.)

You'll need a different computer that can successfully connect to the WiFi hotspot. I used another laptop for this, but it could be anything with a full browser - iPad, Blackberry, just whatever will connect. Go ahead and connect to the Verizon AC30 network on that device.

Type 192.168.0.1 into your browser. When it asks you for a password, type 'admin', just like the username. Click Basic Setup at the top. On the drop-down for Encryption Mode, change it to WEP, then make up a password to fill in to Network Key 1. Click Next, then Apply. You can then close that page. Note that while using WEP mode means your network will not be open, it is not really that secure.

Next, to get the hotspot to show up correctly, I had to restart the Fivespot. Once the Verizon AC30 network shows up on your (formerly nonworking) laptop, connect and use your chosen Network Key as the password when it prompts you.

According to a very helpful Verizon employee who knew the workaround, they know about the issue, and they're collecting details to be able to issue a firmware update to the Fivespot. Hopefully this will come soon.

Informed WEP key is a 10 digit number. could 231408&sid nos. & characters be my WEP key?

A WEP key is a security code used on some Wi-Fi networks.A WEP key is a sequence of hexadecimal digits. These digits include the numbers 0-9 and the letters A-F.

The length of a WEP key depends on the type of WEP security (called "encryption") utilized:
  • 40- / 64-bit WEP: 10 digit key
  • 104- / 128-bit WEP: 26 digit key
  • 256-bit WEP: 58 digit key
WEP keys are chosen by a network administrator, it would have been provided by the Internet Service providers, Hence it can't be as what you stated.

How do i find my SSID, WEP key and WPA key trying to connect ps3 to internet.

You need to log onto your router and determine the WEP or WPA key being used. Your router manual has logon details. Also, the key is sometimes on the bottom of the router.

Cant conect to internet

  • Wii Error Code 51300 - 51399
  • This error is caused by the Wii being unable to connect to the access point.

    To solve this error :

Try changing the channel of your wireless router to either channel 1 or channel 11 which can increase download speeds.

If your router is using WEP encryption
  • Ensure your key is hexadecimal, consisting of 0-9 or A-F only, no other special characters or letters.
  • 64 bit encryption requires your WEP key to be 10 characters consisting of numbers or leters A through F.
  • 128 bit encryption requires your WEP key to be 26 characters consisting of numbers or leters A through F.

If your router is using WPA encryption, the Wii is compatible with :
    WPA - PSK(TKIP)
    WPA - PSK(AES)
    WPA2 - PSK(AES)

If your router is using MAC filtering, ensure the Wii MAC address has been added to the list of approved MAC address on your wireless router settings

I am visiting my aunt, she has att broad band with wireless, I put the wep key in and it gives me limited or no connectivity. It gave me a 168 address so I manually put in a 192 address, got rid of limited...

First take off WEP.
Next, ensure DHCP is enabled on router.
Don't set a manual IP address in computer, it should auto detect.
You probably have the WEP key wrong

Use the HEX WEP key in windows, do not use a pass phrase.

I am attempting to secure my network through this router which at this time is open for the whole neighborhood to see

Here are the diffenent types of Security Settings possible with a wireless router: (how to set this depends on the brand of router)

Security Mode: You may choose from Disable, WEP, WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal, WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise, or RADIUS. All devices on your network must use the same security mode in order to communicate.
Capture(wlansec.wpapersharekey) WPA Personal:
Capture(helpwpa.phase8) WPA Algorithm: You may choose from TKIP or AES.
Capture(helpwpa.phase9) WPA Pre-Shared Key: Choose a unique key to authenticate with other devices on your network. The Pre-Shared Key must be between 8 and 63 characters in length.
Capture(helpwpa.phase10) Group Key Renewal: This settings determines how often your group key changes.

Capture(wlansec.wpa2persharekey) WPA2 Personal:
Capture(helpwpa.phase11) WPA2 Algorithm: You may choose from AES or TKIP+AES. Choose TKIP+AES if you have both WPA and WPA2 devices on your network.
Capture(helpwpa.phase12) WPA2 Pre-Shared Key: Choose a unique key to authenticate with other devices on your network. The Pre-Shared Key must be between 8 and 63 characters in length.
Capture(helpwpa.phase13) Group Key Renewal: This settings determines how often your group key changes.

Capture(wlansec.wparadius) WPA Enterprise:
Capture(helpwpa.phase14) WPA Algorithm: You may choose from TKIP or AES.
Capture(helpwpa.phase15) RADIUS Server Address: The IP address of your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase16) RADIUS Server Port: The port your RADIUS server uses.
Capture(helpwpa.phase17) Shared Secret: The shared secret set on your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase18) Key Renewal Timeout: Determines how often your keys should be renewed.

Capture(wlansec.wpa2radius) WPA2 Enterprise:
Capture(helpwpa.phase19) WPA2 Algorithm: You may choose from AES or TKIP+AES. Choose TKIP+AES if you have both WPA and WPA2 devices on your network.
Capture(helpwpa.phase20) RADIUS Server Address: The IP address of your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase21) RADIUS Server Port: The port your RADIUS server uses.
Capture(helpwpa.phase22) Shared Secret: The shared secret set on your RADIUS server.
Capture(helpwpa.phase23) Key Renewal Timeout: Determines how often your keys should be renewed.

Capture(wlansec.wep) WEP:
Capture(helpwpa.phase24) Default Transmit Key: The key you would like to use for transmitting WEP keys.
Capture(helpwpa.phase25) WEP Key Bit: You may select from 64-Bit or 128-Bit encryption.
Capture(helpwpa.phase26) Passphrase: You may enter a passphrase consisting of any keyboard character to be used to generate a hex WEP key. Passphrase option is only supported when you are only using Linksys devices on your network.
Capture(helpwpa.phase27) Key 1-4: You may enter a WEP key manually. You must use only hex characters (0-9 and A-F). 64-Bit WEP requires 10 hex characters. 128-Bit WEP requires the use of 26 hex characters.

Capture(wlansec.radius) RADIUS:
Capture(helpwpa.phase28) RADIUS Server Address: The IP address of your RADIUS server.

How do i unlock the signal from my wrt54gs v.6 on the other computer

You will need to use the same WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) Key that you used on the other computer. Or, you can press the reset button (located on the back of your Linksys router) for at least 10 seconds while powered on to reset it to default (unsecured wireless network), and then readdress your router (by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of a browser) to set up your security with a new WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) Key.

I hope this helps, and Good luck.
