Need to set R3000 Compacq laptop to factory settings.

I need to set it back because everytime windows goes to load I get a blue screen saying it is shutting down for the computers protection. I have a application and driver recovery disc. How do I set it back?

compaq have a recovery partition to allow you to reinstall the system as shipped from the factory...but unfortunately it is a hidden partition and you would need to use something like FDISK to make that partition active..are you using vista ? if so try pressing F8 after the bios screen (you'll see the safe mode options) try the vista startup repair option...

You have the application and driver disk, but do you have the OS reinstallation disk? Using the disk will wipe the hard drive in order to set it back to when it was shipped from the factory. Do you know if there is a recovery partition if you do not have the disk?

Compaq? Oh, then you are going to have a hard disk partition with the recovery files, so you don't need the disks. You have made it, that's great, because in case you cannot access the hard disk, you cannot initiate a recovery without ordering recovery CDs for your model from HP.

There are a number of ways to do it.

Try pressing F9 at startup (when the Compaq or HP logo shows up), and if it doesn't work, see the key for System Recovery at the bottom of the screen. It will recover, just follow the instructions on the screen.

Also, you can insert the first disk anytime, or boot from it when you start the PC up.

Or, you can use the Recovery Manager software in the PC that is pre-installed and it will help you to do a System Recovery from the files on your recovery partition.

Please rate this answer, I badly need it.

Laptop computers can be wonderful devices, except when the need to troubleshoot arises. Acer laptops are no different. A quick way to fix many problems with an Acer laptop running Windows is to reset it to factory settings. Resetting your Acer laptop to factory settings can eliminate slow operation, registry problems, virus problems and spyware issues. What's more, a factory reset of your laptop may reduce the need for a full reinstallation of Windows.

Back up all necessary data to an external device such as a disk, flash drive or hard drive Make sure all programs are closed and shut down your Acer laptop. Detach any external hardware such as an external hard drive or printer. Press the Power button to boot your Acer laptop. Press "Alt-F10" on your keyboard when the Acer screen appears at the start of the boot-up process. Wait a moment while Windows loads the reset files. Select "Restore System from factory default" in the Acer eRecovery Management window. Click "Next" on the next screen to continue. Click "Next" on the following destination information window. This will pop up a notice telling you that resetting your Acer laptop will erase all data and restore the laptop to its original settings and configuration. Go into bios and select factory default, it will ask if you want to save the settings enter yes, when you exit the screen press F10 to exit and save all changes, on your laptop the key choice may be different so look at the bottom and double check. This should fix your problem, you may need to reload windows again.

R3000 Compacq laptop wont boot up

Hi.
Can you please give me full details on what the problem is, the BSOD, does it appear after the boot is finished and loading the OS?
Does the OS start and then get the BSOD, ETC.
If You have the original install cd, enter your bios and at BOOT DEVICES [OR BOOT SETTINGS] make sure that the first device to boot from is your cd/dvd etc, Put The Cd of the OS in the cd/rom and restart the machine, it will hopefully start the instalation of windows do not tell the program to install a fresh copy, but rather use the R for repair.
If that does not work or you still have problems it sounds like it's time for a new instal of windows, the BSOD [Blue Screen Of Death] pops up when files get damaged, if you overclock without checking everything voltages, fans, TEMPERATURE of CPU etc.
Also can you please tell me how long ago the system was activated, and what if anything did you do or were working on when you got this BSOD.
What the OS you are using is can help also, and is it sp1? sp2? sp3? for win XP even vista is up to SP1 already for a supposed new os from ms.

Prior to re-installing your OS, backup all your documents..
Insert your recovery disk cd on the cd rom drive and reboot your pc.

As it reboots press any key to continue so it will boot from cd and delete the partition, create a partition and active it.

Then install the OS which goes to C:\ drive. After the installation is complete install all the drivers and the applications. You can go to the manufacturer's website and download others drivers as needed.

Activate Windows then go to Microsoft Update

The word ''Acers'' apperas on the screen and its not loading

if you can find the motherboard battery, remove it and leave it out for around 2 mins, this should reset the CMOS (date, time, settings etc) make sure the laptop battery is out and its not plugged into the mains, the other way is to flash the bios by downloading the latest bios version for you machine providing that it boots to windows, the only other option is to flash via floppy with AC power on!!! NOT RECOMENDED as if it goes wrong your pc will be permanantly dead

good luck
