If you are talking about the brass valve with a small pin in the leaks untill the pressure get to 15-25 lbs then the pin pops out and stops leaking and the compressor pumps to pressure. this is normal that valve it a cold start valve that allows the compressor to start with out binding

Thermo overload switch keeps tripping

Your pressure switch that shuts off the motor isn't working causing the motor to overheat. If you think the pressure switch is ok then the motor may have a shorted winding inside.

I have old Ingersoll Rand compressor type 30 model 15T serial # 243496 Blow fuss when restart ?

Probably a faulty non return check valve, when the unit reaches pressure air in the delivery pipe is vented down at the pressure switch. If the check valve is passing back this will cause the unit to try to start against a pressure causing it to pull high amps and trip. If there is a constant hiss coming from the pressure switch when the unit stops it will be the non return valve. There should be a short hiss of air when units stops If there is no hiss at all when the unit stops it could be a faulty pressure switch. If it is a quick fix would be to create a small leak on the delivery pipe to vent the line down.

Air Compressor trips breaker under load. If I remove the belt the motor runs fine, spins freely as does the compressor pump. With the tank pressure empty, the compressor starts and runs fine. When it...

Most people recommend replacing the motor capacitor in this situation, since a faulty cap will reduce the starting torque. But in my case the check valve was the culprit - there was too much back pressure on the head.

Ingersoll Rand 3 hp air compressor builds correct pressuse but trips rest when called to restart. Changed starter and running capasitors but no change in problem.

You need to check the head unloader.
Compressed air that is trapped over the piston when the compressor shuts off will be evacuated to atmosphere through the unloader valve, to prevent that compressed air pressure from adding load to the start up of the compressor motor, when the pressure switch again calls for air. For example, the last time you did a sit-up, you may have folded your arms over your chest, or if you are particularly masochistic : - ) , even held a weight to your chest. What you were doing is increasing the load against which your muscles have to work to effect the sit up.
Compressed air, captured in the cylinder after the compressor shuts off, would increase the load against which the electric motor would have to work. It may increase the load too much, and the motor may fail to start, or it may pull too many amps and fry a fuse or pop a breaker in the panel.
When the compressor shuts off, the unloader valve operates, it unloads the trapped air to atmosphere, and that problem is solved.
The unloader valve is plumbed somewhere in the line between the compressor and the compressor tank.
It is often part of the pressure switch assembly. It will, in many cases, be opened by the pressure switch, when the air in the compressor air tank reaches the set point and the pressure switch trips the power supply to the motor off, and at the same time, trips the unloader valve to open.

it is normaly on the bottom of the pressure switch it will have a small tube hooked to it

Check air compressor in the garage. Took it inside and plug it in. Nothing. What would possibly cause it to work one second, then not the next?

you have to start at the beginning. your outlet, cord, motor breaker, the on off switch on the comp that trips the comp off at a set pressure. if you know how to use a volt ohm meter that would be good to check the cord and breaker. some time the pressure switch contacts will arc and burn a little and then don't make good contact.

try running up this motor when its not installed on the compressor,, if it still blows the trips the motor is faulty,, if it runs ok, but hums when reconted to the compressor the compressor if far to tight for the motor to turn the compressor,,,you can not reset the points in a breaker trip they trip at a set curent if the motor is pulling more amps than the trip is set for it will trip the trip to turn off the curent, the motor will pull far more amps than it should if its over loaded thats why its humming its trying to spin up it but cant so it just keeps pulling more and more amps till the trip cuts out

you need to run this compressor on a cooker trip (ei:30 amp) it pulls far to much power for a house hold trip (ie:15 amp) even if close to a 13 amp plug, at 375 feet???? thats some loss in the wire, over 50%!!!!! if it trys to start on the low loop.s it pops your trips!! right? hook it up to your cooker trip, but its still a very long hick for your power to get to,,
ps,,,this compresor never come with a three pin plug on it did it? like 3.7 hp = 4000 watt's app at the plug!
you could try puting a bigger starter (cap) on the motor that will hold more amp's for starting up on
and it will give your motor a longer,,,kick start,,,
talk to your frendly sparky first! ("caps," can and will kill you, if you tuch a charged up one!!!! so dont play with them) hope this helps you out

Husky comp on 1st start builds up 75 lbs and wont restart

Check the reset button on the motor to see if it tripped. The motor may be overheating. Some motors have an internal breaker and they have to cool off before they restart. Also check the pressure switch. Move the switch back and forth ( on and off ) and listen for a click. If it doesn't click with low to no air pressure then the switch is bad.
