Very simple question for those who know... How do you remove the ceramic cooktop from the unit to perform maintenance? I have a burner that won't turn off and two "hot burner" indicator lights that stay on all the time.

Re: Remove ceramic cooktop
Grouch, kill the power to the cooktop. You are going to have to remove the mounting brackets from undernieth and push the cooktop up. After it's up from it's installation position remove the side and back screws holding the top to the botom. Remove the burner knobs and it should come apart. Sounds like you have a bad burner switch. First - Ignite the flame then reduce the flame to between low and medium. If the igniter continues to click, you most likely have a contact switch issue related to the problem burner.
Unplug the cook top and turn off the gas. After the gas is turned off, disconnect the gas line.
Remove the cook top.
Unscrew and Remove ALL of the burner bases by lifting them up. The ceramic igniters may be difficult to remove but they will come loose if worked out slowly.
Pull of the wire connected to the igniter.
Remove to cook top top plate from the base, exposing the internal gas valves and wiring.
All of the burners are wired in parallel. Lift off and unsnap the casing of the problem igniter switch. The repair may require something as simple as, 1- cleaning the contact strips, or 2- slightly bending the non stationary contact strip to keep it from coming in contact with the stationary contact when in the off position, or 3- replacing the switch.
Unless you comfortable and understand how electric systems and switches work, this is a job for a qualified repair person.
Scott, On each of the heating elements there is a thermostat that does two things. It is a high limit safety thermostat and then a different set of contacts turn on the hot surface light. Unfortunately, you can't just replace that part. You will need to isolate which element it is with a mutimeter and replace the entire element. When you turn one of the units on high you will see a dark line under the glass running 1/2 way across the elements. Those are the thermostats... Find the defective one and the rest is pretty simple to replace
the safest way for a home owner to do this is turn the main breaker off to the house that is the safest way. Then poll the cover plate off the box in th wall with the two screws. not the screws on the round conduit. Then pull out the wire nuts that hold the wires together and un screw them to separate wires I wouldlabel them so you know what ones went together. After top is in just reverse the proses above.
