Ok, to get into the bios you need to hit F2 when the computer first starts up, when in the bios change boot order to CD drive, save settings and exit, the computer will reboot and you should be able to boot from CD. Any probz post back

Dell inspiron will not boot in safe mode . goes round in loop . if you put an xp setup disk in it still goes to loop

For your computer to read the Windows CD you need to change your boot mode to CD/DVD drive first. You need to access your BIOS which usually can be done by either pressing F2 or del when you first power on your computer. Once your in the BIOS look for the boot order option and make CDROM as the first boot device, save settings and restart your computer. When the XP cd is read, it will show you Press any key to boot from CD... and you need to press any key right away. It should read the XP disc and doing a repair is another story.

Dell Dimension 8200 PC Desktop Cd rom not reading disk

optical drive troubleshooting is pretty straight forward, fist see if you can boot to the drive using a bootable CD like the Windows CD or your Dell Resource CD, use the F12 1 time boot menu test it.
Also see if the drive is detected by model in the BIOS (F2 at boot) if not seen, reseat both power and data cables, boot to BIOS F2, turn on CAP LOCK SCROLL LOCK, NUMLOCK, then press ALT+E then ALT+F then ALT+B, this resets bios defaults and forces hardware re-detection. If you have no floppy diskette drive, you'll need to turn that back off in the BIOS before the ALT+B
If all that is done and the drive isn't seen/cannot boot to with bootable media, swap the data cable with the HDD and try a different power connection.
If Drive still not connected, replaced the drive.
If drive is detected and IDd then try this

Trying to reformat and load my computer for a fresh start. When I reboot to load Windows the screen goes to a small box saying "input not supported". How do I fix this???

visit my site
www.sureshayyar.110mb.com
it has all details on how to reset to facotry setting.....format and reinstall Win etc

you may have to make changes to BIOS to boot from CDROM drive....as a 1st Boot device....
press F1, F2, Del, Esc, F12 key other one that brings up the BIOS screen there look for Boot seq....disable HDD and floppy, enable CD ROM drive and make that 1st boot drive....you need to change it back to HDD the1st boot device later after loading Win....
once you boot from CDROM then follow inst from my site to format HD....and install XP
all the best
pls feedback and comment on how u did

How do I get my inspiron 5100 back to its original factory settings? I don't care if I loose my documents they are saved on a jump drive

Hi, if you have your Del CD, you can just put this in and select repair or reinstall. If this is not posible, follow the following:
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} To install new version of XP. Insert XP CD into drive, reboot pc pressing ESC button, or delete in some machines. This takes you into BIOS, change your primary boot device to CDrom, save changes and reboot. Select boot from CD once this appears and wait for files to be installed. Select the part of the hard drive you wish to use for your operating system (usually the largest) and select partition this drive. Delete any previous os, and reformat hard drive. (Be aware this removes everything saved on your hard drive, so always back up first) Re boot afterwards and reinstall operating system.
Hope this helps

Shows no boot device run dianostics on harddrive _pass

If your computer cannot read from your disk-drive, then it will try to read from a disk inserted into the CD-drive.

So, it's likely that the disk-drive on your computer has died.

Take the computer to a qualified technician, to replace the disk-drive.

How can I boot Windows XP from my USB Disk drive on my DELL Dimension 4500 computer ?

Hello,
When you have switched on your PC, strike F2 several times or DEL to enter to your Bios set up. As sson as you're in, set boot rpiority to USB Disk drive as your priority boot sector instead of Hard Disk drive.
If you don't have CDROM player/drive, you can use USB as priority boot but you may have another installer for reformatting via USB.
Blessings.

Dell dvd drive not reading vista os dvd

It more than likely won't due to it being an OS. It's usually down to copy protection.

Best thing to do is reset the PC and go into your BIOS settings, then change the boot priorities so it boots from your DVD drive, when you save these settings restart the PC. This will make the PC read from the DVD first instead of the Hard drive for the OS, should bring up a message saying "press any key to boot from disc", then when you do press something it should start up the disc and you can reformat from there.

Reformatting pc

what you need to do is put the XP cd in the cd or dvd drive first, then, when the pc is booting up press either F2 or Del depending on bios and the cmos setting screen will appear. Go to advanced cmos settings and the top line normal reads 'first boot device, this will be set at HDD or hard disk, this needs to be changed to cdrom. When you have changed it, save settings and exit, the system will now reboot and an option to boot from cd screen will appear, you then press Enter to boot from cd then follow the instructions to format or install windows.
