This is your laptop's (Acer Aspire 3680) right side, do you see the tiny button in the middle? Turn on your laptop and click it, it will open and you'll be able to place a CD.

I installed windows 7 and i want downgrade to windows xp ,i put xp cd in th drive and restating its not showing any thing

In order to run xp, load in cd/dvd drive and shut computer down, now press power, when logo pops up press F12 and select boot order using the arrows on the keyboard scroll up or down and highlight cd/dvd drive and press enter, that will start the cd installation process. Note! you may have a different F key number assigned for boot selection, when logo pops up look down bottom right for the correct F key number.

My Dell Inspiron CD Drive Won't Stay Shut

Wow. Power off the laptop then turn it over. Look for the one screw that holds the cd drive. It will have a circular icon on it. Remove the screw and then pull the cd drive out. Then put it back in and replace the screw. Hopefully all it needed was to be reseated.

My dell studio 1555 is not operating ....when i power on a screen with dell comes and and it does not goes further more .....at the right bottom of the screen it says F2 for setup and f12 boot ...and when...

This could be a problem with corrupt files. As for the stuck CD drive, there should be a small pinhole on the drive's door. Stick a paperclip in there and it should pop open. As for the boot screen, hit F12 and make sure it's booting to the C:/ drive, which is the hard drive inside your computer. If there still isn't any progress, if you have an operating system disc (like Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows XP Professional) pop that in the drive and go back to the boot menu to select the disk drive. If that takes you to an installation menu, you should simply follow the onscreen instructions to recovery or a formatting (wiping of the hard drive and reinstallation) which is your choice. I'm not sure if the fan has mechanically failed or if it is due to software error, but the laptop should be able to function at least during startup without a fan. You should worry about getting the computer up and running before you are concerned about the fan. Best of luck!

Boot into safe mode.
F8 before Windows boots.

Scan with Combofix for example.

Scan system files (OS cd needed)

To use the System File Checker, follow these steps:
  1. Close any open programs on your Desktop

  2. Click on the Start button

  3. Click Run

  4. Type this command in the Run box: SFC /SCANNOW

  5. Click the "OK" button

My burner on my dell e 5400 wont let me play or burn disc what can i do you can reach me at chuckspolishing53@yahoo.com

A) Clean the optical eye of the CD/DVD burner. If the laser optical is dirty it won't read disks.
The laser optical eye is located in the bottom of the CD/DVD drive.

You can,
1) Turn the computer on, open the CD/DVD drive tray, and then turn the computer off.
Unplug the computer from power.
Use a can of compressed air for computers, and spray towards the bottom.
After you are satisfied the optical eye is clean, let the computer sit for 3 minutes.
Then plug into power.

Open the drive, try a disk.

2) Use an optical cleaner disk. The disk usually has small brushes on it, which you are to properly apply a few drops of cleaner to.
Then the drive tray is closed, and the disk does it's job.
There are many variations of disk cleaners, the above is just one example.

B) You may have driver problems.
A Driver is a small piece of software that the Operating System uses to 'communicate' with a device.
{Windows XP is one example of an O/S. A CD/DVD drive is one example of a device}

Sometimes Windows is a 'funny animal'. Files tend to be corrupted. A Driver file may be fragmented.
You have to 'slap Windows around' a little bit.

1) Left-click on Start, then Right-click on My Computer. (Windows XP)
2) Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.

You are now looking at the System Properties window.

3) Left-click on the Hardware tab at the top.

4) Left-click on Device Manager in the middle.

5) When Device Manager loads, left-click on the + sign next to > DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

6) Right-click on the drive's name.

7) Left-click on Uninstall.

A Microsoft 'squawk box' will come up.
"Warning, you are about to uninstall this device, ya-da, ya-da"

Click on OK.
(It is Ok)

8) Now close all windows, go back to your desktop screen only.

9) Turn your computer off. WAIT 1 minute, then turn your computer on.

After Windows loads you should see a pop-up of of the system tray at the bottom of the screen,
"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another pop-up after that, "Found XXXXXX CD/DVD drive"

If your CD/DVD drive doesn't work now, I suggest it's tiem to buy a new one.
Mechanical devices in a computer are rated in hours of usage, and your optical drive, (CD/DVD drive) may be at the end of it's 'Life-span'.

Dell Inspiron E5400 Service Manual from Dell Support,

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/late5400/en/sm/index.htm

Click on > Optical Drive on the right side.

My dell studio 1737 keeps making clicking sound and wont eject tried my computer, tried funtion key not doing anything please help

It sounds like your CD/DVD rom is stuck or damaged. If the drive is empty, this means that something is wrong with the drive itself.

Often, you can use a paperclip that has been bent straight to open this. insert the paper clip into the tiny hole on the door pannel of your CD/DVD drive and most of the time it should pop right open.

if it does not pop open right away, I have seen situations where the disc becomes lodged inside the case and will not allow the door to open at all. This may require you to take your laptop to a repair facility and explain the situation to them.

If you are feeling very confident, you can try to remove the CD rom drive from your laptop, remove the outer casing and see if you can dislodge the disc that way.

CD/DVD tray will not stay closed

If you push the tray closed and it simply springs back out, then the internal latch is either jambed open or broken off. Open a paperclip and push an end into the black hole you see on the door bezel. push gently in the hole, you feel the clip contact the release mechanism. You may have to push on it several times to see if it can be dislodged (if it's not broken), if the door is still popping open, you may have to change out your drive.
