Hi,
in compaq the power-on switch is not sensitive enough to kick start on a single touch.what you need to do is press button firmly.but still if you face the same problem, you have to the notebook to HP Total care to check the switch .probably this cannot be a serious issue even though it is a bit irritating one.

On Start, type in "cmd} without the quotation marks. A new backdoor screen with open... it's black, don't worry. type in "chkdsk/f" without quotation marks. and hit Enter on the keyboard. The computer should repair itself for you... be patient, it takes time. Re-boot and it should be fine.

Dell Inspirion 1525 will not boot up. Stays on the Dell screen. The laptop does not respond to F2, F8 or F12 keys.

Try this once...
Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the previous month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

The detail of that particular date should show "System Checkpoint" and time on the right hand side box. Select that date.

Now, Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

If there is no response please leave a feedback

The power botton indicator blinking amber light and if i pree any key the system comes up

You're going into sleep/hibernate mode.
Simply go to start menu, control panels, power options to change the time before this occurs, or to switch it off.

OK try this
  1. Go into your bios usualy by presing F2 or Delete while booting, reset to fabrick defaults.
  2. Its also possible that your computer is looking for a other boot device CD/LAN/ USB etc. that can also be changed in your bios.
  3. A faulty hard drive or bad IDE connection is also possible.
Thank you
