Question about Toshiba 57HX93 57" Rear Projection HDTV
Hi, I have a Toshiba 57 inch projection tv.57hx93 two days before the superball I noticed that the color fades out to an almost black and white, if there's anybody that has herd of this problem please help. Thank you Nick
Yep, your problem is a relatively easy one to repair if you know how to solder. You better repair it before it blows the fuse though. There are two capacitors in the main power supply that are coming loose and need to be re soldered. There is a Toshiba service bulletin about it. They are marked C809 and C810 on the main power supply board. Good Luck

this sounds like a convergence loss... the most likely cause of this is what is known as stk's or convergenc ic(chips) have gone bad.. also it cound be the output resistors. most likely need replaced

this is a crt type tv- no lamps just crt's if it was moved recently then a seal could have been damaged on the crt cuasing coolant to leak down the neck getting into the socket. this will cause trouble for sure also could have a crack in the crt. look for a sticky liquid in the bottom of the unit.
sometime the crt's can ark and rip out a video output chip on the crt socket check it out.
not common but not unheard of.cheers

you can get the convergence repair kit for your model that has both convergence IC and the six feed resistors at this link, The repair kit also has step by step instructions with pictures so you can do the repair your self. Heres the link. The 50H82 kit is the same for the 57H82, http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/product_info.php/pName/toshiba-50h71--50h81-convergence-repair-kit/cName/convergence-repair-kits

If you are capable of some basic troubleshooting you can determine what's wrong but you won't likely be able to fix it yourself. If you remove the TV's back panel, you can locate three plug connectors for the convergence correction yokes. You pull the red, blue, and green connectors and then plug the TV back in and hit the power button. If the TV comes on, its a failure of the convergence output ICs and will cost $350-450 if you call in a service company.
