I am having hp 530 laptop with intel core duo inside,512mb RAM,80 gb hard disk.I want to upgrade my processor, ramand hard disk. can i do it ? upto what limit ?

Unfortunately I would have to say no, you won't be able to upgrade the processor. I located a user manual at

http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12722_na/12722_na.PDF

According to specifications you can increase the Ram to 2 MB and the hard drive should be a 120GB hard driver Sata

System Memory 1024-MB 533/667-MHz DDR2 SDRAM in one slot
Two SODIMM slots; supported memory 2048 MB2
Operates at a maximum of 533-MHz with 667-MHz memory
Hard Drive 120-GB3 5400 rpm SMART SATA

The processor will be limited to what the motherboard can support and it was designed for that 1.6 Ghz processor. Unfortunately it is very difficult to upgrade processors in laptop machines. I do have to ask how old this machine is. The specification indicates MegaBytes of ram and this is actually very little Ram in today's computing world. Most machines support at least 2 gigaBytes of Ram to start with.

Sorry to say but this laptop only supports up to 1 GB maximum RAM. So you can only upgrade it to 1 GB.

I have laptop lenovo N500 model 4233-65G. currently it have core2duo T6400. i want to upgrade processor. please tell me suitable options. i had heard that most of the laptops dont support this replacement.

The processor you have is already pretty zippy, so why worry about changing it? It usually doesn't pay to upgrade a processor anyway. The laptop was designed to use the processor in it, and trying to use something else may lead to power problems, overheating and shorter battery life.

If you are trying to improve your laptop's performance, you would be better off adding extra RAM to the capacity of the computer. Make sure Windows is free of unnecessary startup applications, and scan your computer for viruses or other malware. Also check for updated drivers for computer. Often there are later versions that may help.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Im trying to fix up my wife's Dell Inspiron B130 instead of buying a new computer. what is the best processor, and video card upgrade i can do?

You don't want to upgrade the cpu. As for the video card it can't be changed as its build into the laptop motherboard.

I would highly recommend that you instead upgrade the ram memory on the laptop since it will give you a bigger performance increase than a new cpu or video card.

The machine only has 256MB of ram, get atleast 512MB or 1024 /1gb of ram and it will work much better.

Is it possible to upgrade my processor?

well first off it depends on what kind of mother board you have. if its an older board it might not handle an upgrade. the labur required to change a cpu or proseser is alot. memory is usulay fairly easy thare is normaly a panel underneith the laptop for the ram plate. but if you are not good at this sort of thin i recomend getting it profesinoly.

My First RAM Upgrade-Any Tips

Make sure you remove the battery before removing or inserting the ram :)

No worries about it not being dual channel as most laptop arent.

DDr (double data rate) ram runs at 200MHz but is actually 400 one the double data rate is applied so they are one and the same :)

I hope its a sodimm stick of ram that you bought? They are about 3i inches long rather than 6 like desktop ram?
