Question about Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens
I charged the battery fully but the camera still will not turn on.
I just got off the phone recently with Canon. I explained the problem to them and they stated that it appears it is due to the cold weather. I saw some stuff on these posts about Christmas Time, etc...They said that most of the time the camera will be ok after it thaws out, but some issues can be caused because of this. One of them is total lack of power. They said that the camera I have has a minimum temperature that it can handle of 30 degrees. This can cause the LCD to freeze, can cause short circut problems, etc...Thus leaving your camera totally in-operable.
The technician tried to help me first rule something out. He had me REBOOT the camera....seems odd to do that if there is no power, huh? Here is how I did mine....
Power on the camera....Remove the battery...then the Disk battery....leave the battery door open for one full minute. Now turn the camera off.....put the disk battery in, then the regular battery....close the battery door....power on. If you have power and your LCD monitor goes on it will say something like 00007 or something like that.
Unfortunately.....Mine didnt. So they are sending me info on my email to send in my camera. It will need to be repaired/replace the parts etc...
I hope that your cameras end up working. They guy from Canon suggested that in the cold weather while carrying it, keep it under your shirt close to your body to keep it warm, dont change lenses in the cold air, and if you are photographing an outdoor sporting event and its cold enough for you to be covered up, then do the same for your camera.....he himself wraps a hand towel around his whole camera except the end of the lens and the view finder (the one you put your eye up against, not the LCD) Wrap a rubber band around it to keep it in place on the lens and unit.
