My camera won't turn on. It is an older cannon rebel sx (8mp).

I charged the battery fully but the camera still will not turn on.

I have the 400D and have the same problem... it was working perfectly only a week ago, and now seems as dead as a doornail.

My camera worked perfectly through the holidays and family visit. I took so many pictures, the battery died. I put it in the charger, as I have hundreds of times before, but when I put it in the camera, it won't turn it on! It is like the camera is completely dead all of the sudden!

My Canon XTI/400D camera was working fine - got back from a business trip and it will not turn on.

I used it last in China and then put the equipment in my case. From what has been said this may be the problem. An aircraft hold goes down to -60 degrees and this may have caused the problem.

However Canon should have clear warnings if the camera cannot be taken in an aircraft hold.

I just got off the phone recently with Canon. I explained the problem to them and they stated that it appears it is due to the cold weather. I saw some stuff on these posts about Christmas Time, etc...They said that most of the time the camera will be ok after it thaws out, but some issues can be caused because of this. One of them is total lack of power. They said that the camera I have has a minimum temperature that it can handle of 30 degrees. This can cause the LCD to freeze, can cause short circut problems, etc...Thus leaving your camera totally in-operable.

The technician tried to help me first rule something out. He had me REBOOT the camera....seems odd to do that if there is no power, huh? Here is how I did mine....

Power on the camera....Remove the battery...then the Disk battery....leave the battery door open for one full minute. Now turn the camera off.....put the disk battery in, then the regular battery....close the battery door....power on. If you have power and your LCD monitor goes on it will say something like 00007 or something like that.

Unfortunately.....Mine didnt. So they are sending me info on my email to send in my camera. It will need to be repaired/replace the parts etc...

I hope that your cameras end up working. They guy from Canon suggested that in the cold weather while carrying it, keep it under your shirt close to your body to keep it warm, dont change lenses in the cold air, and if you are photographing an outdoor sporting event and its cold enough for you to be covered up, then do the same for your camera.....he himself wraps a hand towel around his whole camera except the end of the lens and the view finder (the one you put your eye up against, not the LCD) Wrap a rubber band around it to keep it in place on the lens and unit. i said, please...I hope this helps.

Keep me posted!!! Would love to hear positive things that your camera has started working again.

My rebel t3i wont turn on!!!

I just bought a T3i and only used it 2 days of shooting. On third day, it's not turning on and it's 80 degree's. So not cold weather. Batteries are fully charged. When I put batter in and turn the switch on, the red light comes on for only a second and then nothing! Other times the red light won't even come on, period. As I said, I've only had it 3 days and it's dead....

I have a brand new Nikon D3100. The battery was fully charged and placed in the camera. I took about 4 photos, and then turned the camera off. When I turned it back on the battery wasn't working to...

The solution to your problem is simple, Kathrynbax.

The battery never comes in fully charged. It's always charged only so you may be able to check if your camera is working. I suggest, you take out your battery and put it to charge for exactly 90 minutes as the manual says. Then I'm sure you won't face any such problems.

Hope this solves your problem.

Good day!

No power - fully charged battery

How about cleaning the battery contacts in the camera first with a pencil eraser and then, with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

My Canon Rebel XSi screen will not turn on even though the battery is fully charged.

Does it take pictures? If it does, the display may be off, try pressing the DISP button a few times. If not, the camera may need to be reset, the battery may be faulty, or the camera may need to be serviced.

Camera will not power up, no lights no beeps nothing, the battery is fully charged and I have replaced the CMAOS battery

Is this an older camera? Is the battery the original? Has it been unused for a lengthy period of time and allowed to completely discharge? It may be dead even though it registers charged in the charger. Clean the battery contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

This is usually caused by a defective shutter release switch - it'll have to go into a repair shop - independent shops will charge about $110 USD - Canon charges about $180

Cannon camera will not turn on

Dear Trish,

There are a couple of things that will usually cause this. A few are simple to check.:

1. Make sure that you battery is inserted properly and that your battery door is closed completely.

2. Make sure that your CF card is inserted properly and that your card slot cover door is completely closed.

3. Make sure that your battery is charged (charge it for 90 minutes) and that your charger works properly during the process. Your charger's light should go from red to solid green during a full charge. If possible test a fully charged battery on another camera. If you don't have access to another camera take your battery down to a local store that sells Rebels and ask to try it on one.

4. If these aren't the cause then you likely have an electrical issue with your camera and you should call Canon's tech support at 1-800-828-4040 to do a little troubleshooting and possibly send the unit in for service.

Hope this helps.
