Question about Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Buttons on screen jump around

The problem started on my NUVI 660 about three months ago. (Its almost 1 year old) after its on, I try to enter the pin number and the screen number buttons jump all around. For example If I want to tap 3 it jumps to 7. After much frustration getting through that screen it does the same thing when trying to enter a destination. Should I just send it back to the company/ factory? What can I do since its almost 1 year old? Thanks any help is appreciated.                                                                        Lindsay

Ok I have a few questions. When you mean it jumps around do you mean:

1. When you press a 3, the 3 button becomes a 7 graphically or
2. When you press a 3, the 7 button is highlighted and chosen.

The first thing I would do is try to recalibrate your touchscreen by pressing the wrench symbol, then the display icon and select calibrate screen. Press the series of dots as you are asked to do and see if that clears up your problem.

If that doesn't work, then I would do a reflash/ugrade of the firmware. Perhaps the firmware is corrupted. This can be done by dowloading Garmin's webupdater at www.garmin.com and connecting your Nuvi to your PC and letting the program reflash your firmware.

The last solution is to replace the touchscreen. Are you sure the screen is not cracked anywhere? A cracked screen will certainly cause a touchscreen to either not work or activate another button when pressed.

You have three options for unlocking a PIN locked Garmin:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin

Unfortunately, these are your only options as this is a security feature to prevent unauthorized use of a stolen GPS

So i found a garmin 660 on the side of the road a couple years ago. Obviously someone stole it out of a car, relized it had a security pin, and chucked it out the getaway car, lol. Anyways i went to the...

The problem you have is the same problem the thief had - you cannot use this unit. The only way(s) to unlock the unit are:

1 - Enter the correct PIN
2 - Take the unit to the location at which the PIN was entered
3 - Send the unit back to Garmin

Be aware, however, if you send the unit to Garmin to be unlocked and you are not the owner of record at Garmin, they WILL NOT return the unit to you.

Cant enter pin or screen is frozen

Look near the SN # and press the reset button.

or

with the garmin off, hold down the right bottom of the screen and turn the garmin on, it will then ask you if you want to perform a hard reset. Choose yes and that should fix your problem.

Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Can't find Satellites

Try this and see if it fixes your problem...first disable bluetooth then follow these steps....

1. Power off the unit.

2. HOLD down the power button and you will see "Pre Boot Mode" appear on the lower part of the display. KEEP HOLDING the power button down and the display will flicker, do this until the pre boot mode message disappears. This seems to take a long time (60 seconds at least).

3. Once the pre boot mode message disappears release the power button and your device will perform some activites to recover from the problem.

Garmin nuvi 660 forget my pin

The only options you have when it comes to a locked unit is to enter the correct PIN, go to the location where the PIN was set, or send the unit back to Garmin. There is no way to unlock a PIN locked unit without the correct PIN or location.
