Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Hi!  I'm wondering if you have any idea what might be going wrong with my tv.  I have an 8 year old 62" toshiba television (it's the really big kind!) which, I was told, was meant for HD television.  The screen goes black when we are watching the television....never when watching a DVD or playing video games.  I have tried using different outlets, with the same results.  We have directv, and I had a repair guy come out.  He said the satellite receiver is fine.  I don't know what is going on?  Could it be that we need a new lamp inside out unit?  The black screen happens randomly, and usually not for very long.  Also, you can see lines across the screen just before it goes out.  Any ideas?

If it was the lamp it would do it with DVDS too! I would ask for a new reciver because the only way the tv guy could moniter your tv picture is through the same box and tv! you need to compare....if you have another box in your house switch them and see what happens...sounds like a signal problem!

Toshiba 36 inch TV (8 Years Old)

Hi,

If the shrinkage is just the top & bottom then it is relatively easy/low cost fix. Most probably, a capacitor in the vertical section is nearing end of its life. This would be the biggest of the bunch and would be something like 47uF/50V.

If however, the shrinkage is on all four sides, then it is the master power supply that is at fault. Chances are the main B+ is getting low which cold be caused by the big filter capacitor or an erratic regulator. This is not a simple fix and would require the services of a qualified professional.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Toshiba colours gone wrong

Yes it is repairable. One of two things is wrong. The color wheel is going bad or the DMD board is going bad. These are the most common repairs needed for a Toshiba. I hope this will help.

5 years old toshiba tv is not that old as per reputation of toshiba. it is not a big problem. it might be due to power supply some part must be defective. it can be fixed easily. But if you want latest feature& digital quality picture go for new one.
