Question about Yahoo Messenger

Unable to see text in messenger

I had been using version 8 without problems. I downloaded YM 9 and it installed properly. When I type text before sending it, the text is visible, but I cannot see text I have sent or text that someone sends me in the messenger box. I have tried uninstalling YM9 and reinstalling YM8 and this did not solve the problem. Additionally, clicking on just about anything related to YM now causes a script error box to appear. Thanks for your help!

The first two solutions haven't worked... Still getting the script errors and I am not able to see any text in messenger boxes (after hitting send). The script errors generally say that YMSGR or something similar "isn't defined."

  • psynapticjor Dec 09, 2008

System Restore would make it work again, however I have made other updates that are working fine. I don't want to lose the rest of my changes. As a last resort, I could still do a system restore, but I would prefer to find the solution for this problem...

  • psynapticjor Dec 09, 2008

I tried uninstalling YM9 and reinstalling YM8. The problems persist. I have 8 currently on my computer.

  • psynapticjor Dec 09, 2008

Windows script fix is now installed. Still no change in the problems.

  • psynapticjor Dec 09, 2008

Video driver is up to date. Problems still persist.

  • psynapticjor Dec 09, 2008

    Still no help....

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

Java and flash now updated. YIM still not working properly. Still getting the script error notifications.

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

These instructions do not seem relevant. The font and color are not the problem. Thanks anyway.

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

A system restore is of course one solution, but would also roll back other things.

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

I don't know why I would want to DL a yahoo program from rapidshare. Who fixed the "software problem" in the officially released version?

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

I'm not sure what you mean. Install the fix (which I have done, btw) after uninstalling yahoo? Or just install it and reboot?

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

I have tried the solutions suggested there. Flash and Java have been updated. I have completely (including a registry scan, etc) uninstalled version 9 and am now using YIM 8. You might be right about having to use system restore, although I am now really curious about what might have caused this.

  • psynapticjor Dec 11, 2008

Yes I typed those commands in. I got a messages that they completed. Then nothing happened!

 open Internet Explorer
hit Tools
select Internet Options
now click on the Security Tab to select it

Under Select a Web Content Zone make sure the Internet icon (world globe) is selected
this will show the Internet Zone
Under Security Level for this Zone click on Custom Level
The Settings window will open, scroll down to the category heading "Scripting"
and select "Enable" for the following
- Active scripting
- Allow paste operations via script
- Scripting of Java applets
click OK, click OK

Launch Yahoo! Messenger, now login again.

if you are still seeing no text....
then try really hard to think what Security applications you have installed, ZoneAlarm, NIS, some AntiVirus suites, anything that deals with "security" regarding controls or blocking actions / access, as Yahoo! needs Scripting enable to function so if some other program is blocking this, or preventing the execution of Yahoo! Messenger wont function correctly. Some applications will also revert or over-ride your IE settings back to what they consider appropriate so your IE settings may look correct but are infact being controlled else where.

Last but not least, check what version of yahoo messenger you have installed...
from within Yahoo! Messenger click Help
click About Yahoo! Messenger
a wee About box pops up telling you what version you have installed

if it's not showing v8.1.0.209 you can grab the latest version
v8.1.0.209 (for Windows 98 / 2000 / ME / XP) released 30 November 06 available for download directly from Yahoo's servers

If uninstalling and installing the yahoo messenger also not work then follow the below two steps
STEP -1
go to Start Button - Run - type regsvr32 jscript.dll - then press OK
STEP-2
go to Start Button - Run - type regsvr32 vbscript.dll - then press OK
now your yahoo messenger will work normally

    Unfortunately your statement "System Restore

working fine. I don't want to lose the rest of my changes. As a last
resort, I could still do a system restore, but I would prefer to find

If you really want this application to work and you have exhausted the possibilities that the various techs in this forum have offered and still are not able to correct the problem, you must decide if the loss of some other things done are lesser in value than the loss of this app.

It is most likely because you don't have scripts enabled. Try this first.

To enable scripting:

1. Click the "Tools" menu on your Internet Explorer toolbar and select "Internet Options."
2. Click the "Security" tab.
3. Click the Internet (globe) icon and click the "Custom Level" button.
4. Scroll down to "Scripting."
5. Enable the following:
* Active scripting
* Allow paste operations via script
* Scripting of Java applets are all enabled
6. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.

If that doesn't work try this:

Why do I receive an error when running Yahoo! Messenger?

You might have a corrupt file in your Yahoo! Messenger directory. To fix the problem, you must manually delete the "Messenger" directory on your C: drive (default), then reinstall the Yahoo! Messenger application.

To delete the directory:

1. Close the Yahoo! Messenger application if you currently have it running. Make sure all instances of Internet Explorer are closed.
2. Go to your desktop and double-click "My Computer."
3. Click the "C:" drive.
4. Go to:
* C:\Program Files\Yahoo!
5. Highlight the Yahoo! Messenger folder and press the Delete key on your keyboard. (All archives will be deleted if they are not copied. Please see below.)

To install:

1. Close all running applications except for your Internet browser.
2. Visit the Yahoo! Messenger home page.
3. Click the "Download Now" button.

To copy your complete Message Archive:

1. Close Yahoo! Messenger (if it is currently running).
2. Go to your Desktop and double-click "My Computer."
3. Select the "C:" drive.
4. Go to:
* C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\Profiles
5. Your "Profiles" folder contains your complete Message Archive. Copy it to the same location on another computer if you wish to view it elsewhere.

Note: If you copy this folder to another computer, your complete Message Archive will be copied, overriding the Message Archive on the computer to which you are copying.

    OR try following

    Do this,,,,

Click on Start Button/ Settings/ Control Panel/ Add or Remove Programs.

DUMP anything that says Yahoo Messenger (toolbar, address book etc etc
etc) they will be listed at the bottom of that window if there are
any), and go to this website,,,,,

    http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=...

and install the 7.0 (my suggestion, one of which I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS WITH).

    BE SAFE

    Cheri

PS. Stay away from the 9.0 version it still has bugs being worked out,
and like I suggested, the 7.0 is the most stable. And no you will NOT
lose any Contacts from a previous version you ran, they are all saved
on Yahoos Sever and will transfer to whatever version you install.

Unable to Install Yahoo! Messenger Firewall Issue or What?

The problem is with the Yahoo uninstall software which fails to clear the old Messenger folder out and creates conflicts with the incoming new software - Your firewall doesn't know whats happening and hoists a red flag. If you had not started to uninstall I would have recommend you download revo and uninstall with that.
http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html
bear this in mind if you manage to install messenger but still have problems
You have to go into your C drive and delete the left behind software
Click ( > ) Start > Computer >> Local disk (C) >> Program files >>Yahoo >> Messenger - if you have Vista the folder should be empty - if you have pre- Vista the only sub-folder remaining should be 'Profile' ( The message Archive file) manually delete everything except 'Profile' by right clicking and deleting. When finished restart your computer and finish the install

HI welcome to fixya free solutions. you are getting this error because of connection error! try to go to messenger then connection preference, its on the top left of your yahoo messenger..choose connect directly to the internet then apply. mess 9 noted for this error.

You need to remove version 9 completely 1st to Get version 8 to work best.Left over files and fragments from using control panel to remove messenger can cause problems/conflicts with the new download.

You can try to uninstall Yahoo messenger and reinstall it again without any firewall enabled and without any antivirus on.

Sometimes these softwares block the full installation of the package.

Also before starting the new installation watch the task manager if there is still yahoomessenger.exe and if there is end process.
