51" Vivitek DLP noise

Hi...there is a constant hum on the set. It groans loudly always on startup but this seems to go away in time. It will shut down unexpectedly and the lights flash and then it will startup...always with an awful groan! It also is reluctant to startup at times..lights flash and then it will come on... but only when its good and ready!
Help!!!!!

One of the suggestions is to replace the optical module... are you referring to the color wheel, optical engine or is there a replaceable module I am not seeing?

Hello,

This would be your color wheel motor and the fan assembly. They should have self lubricating bearings, however if these bearings are failing you will get these kinds of noises.

I hope this helps,

Thank you

The fluorescent inside make humming sound naturally.
Like when you turn on a lamp, and some lamps make a low humming sound.
If your sound is unusual it indicates that you need to replace lamp and fan .

If its DLP tv..

TV makes a humming noise.
Step 1: Power on the TV and wait for the picture to be displayed.
Step 2: Reset system and mute the TV.
Step 3: Can the noise still be heard?

  • No - Unit is operating correctly.
  • Yes - Proceed with Step 4.
Step 4: Adjust TV volume to normal listening level. Can the humming noise be heard over the audio 6~12 feet away from TV?
  • No - Unit is operating correctly.
  • Yes - Proceed with Step 5.
Step 5: Stand near the TV and listen if the humming is from lower center of TV?
  • No - Replace fans.
  • Yes - Replace optical module.
  • Unsure - Proceed with Step 6.
Step 6: If unsure of where the humming comes from, power off the TV and listen to the humming. Make sure noise is audible to confirm this step:
  • Humming stops 1-5 seconds after powering off TV - Replace optical module.
  • Humming stops 1-3 minutes after powering off TV - Replace fans.

Good luck...

Vivitek D326MX DLP, does no power up right away.

Almost certainly a faulty switch mode power supply. Since these are both complicated and dangerous for the inexperienced to play with, the best advice will be to take it to a service centre for repair. It's almost certain to be either failing electrolytic capacitors, or a high value startup resistor, or both, in the smps :o)

No picture or sound

Hi, your color wheel needs to be replaced, the bearings fail causing the grinding noise, the new ones use "air bearings" so they are supposed to last much longer, video-tek

Flashing in Blk,Wht, and a little color

Sounds like maybe your color wheel needs to be replaced. If you have noticed a humming noise in conjunction with the intermittent colors, then that is most likely the issue.
My 51" Vivitek started to hum loudly about 2 months ago and I kind of ignored it ,but it got so loud and annoying I had to do something.First changed the bulb and then bought a color wheel at www.vancebaldwin.com .Login as guest and then enter your model number into corresponding box. They have a few Vivitek parts.
I replaced my color wheel myself and it works great!
I'd be happy to help any way I can.
Good luck!

Vivitek 56 inch dlp projection is humming. why and how to fix

In my experience, the humming means your color wheel is going. The bearings inside the wheel are probably giving out.
My Vivitek started humming a couple of months ago and first I replaced the lamp.
Still hummed.
I read in other forums that humming is linked to color wheels and that seemed like where the noise was coming from.
I purchased a new wheel online and replaced it myself...
..no more humming, the picture is great and now I can listen to the movie again...not the tv!

51 in HDTV DLPTelevision make a loud humming noise when turned on

where's the noise coming from? The back of the set near the lamp? Could be a bad color wheel.
