Question about Garmin nuvi 350 GPS Receiver

5 Answers

NUVI 310 I tried to update my maps to the 2008 Map Source City Navigator 2008 Australia. I uncoded the maps on my PC and transferred to GPS successfully. Now the previous maps are gone (2007 version) and I get a warning saying "can't unlock maps". How do I fix this problem so I can access the maps?

I had Mapsource City Navigator Version 2007 Australia loaded on my Nuvi 310. I tried to install version 8 of the same software. I successfully unlocked the maps on my PC and then transferred the maps to my GPS inbuilt memory. Now I have no maps at all. I get a warning saying"can't unlock maps'. I tried one of the solutions which was to delete the gmapsupp.img. file in the Garmin directory It does not work. Are there any other solutions?

The map code had not been validated, and the all maps had been probably erased.

When this happen you need to call Garmin to sort out the problem.

Call Garmin Australia toll free Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 5pm EST at :1 800 235 822

Or follow indications on this page (click).

Hi
Have you registered the mapping software with Garmin? You have to register it, they will provide you with the unlock key, and then you enter the unlock key in your software so your maps can be used in your Garmin GSPr. Each code is specific for the software and the Garmin unit.

Secondly, you may need to call GARMIN to talk to their tech support... they can straighten out this problem if you've already paid for the map update.

You should register your unit on GARMIN's website, it will speed the process.

Maybe there is enough to remove \garmin\gmapsupp.img from nuvi. But be carefull, this can be a valid map, so better make a copy befor removing.

All GPS that supports NT maps, do also work with non-NT. Not the other way around.
To see that it works you can activate both GPS and Mapsouce in demo modes.
Go in to MapSource and select:
    Utileties -> Unlock Maps -> Next -> Yes I have 25-carachter key -> Next -> Next ->
In the field "Enter 25-character code" type inn "DEMO" -> Next -> Close.

This sets MapSource in Demo and unlocks all maps you have installed.
Then send the map to the GPS that you like to look at.

This will set the GPS into Demo modus. (Works only in emulated nodus)

To get out of demo modus, remove the "DEMO" key from Unlock wizard and
transfere any map you like to the GPS, or deltete the \garmin\gmapsupp.img file.

    try a reset -----
Hard Reset is performed in the Maintenance

Mode:Turn your Nuvi unit off, remove any SD cards from the SD card slot and make sure that the unit is not plugged into any computer.
Place a fingertip on the upper left hand corner of the touch screen andkeep it there while turning the unit on, a prompt should read " Do youreally want to start in maintenance mode?"
    Select the yes button.
    Enter your PIN if enabled.
Main Maintenance Mode screen should have 4 selections:
    System information
    View Diagnostics
    Clear User data
    Clear Waypoints
Choose "Clear Waypoints". After some time the unit should reboot. As to firmware upgrade:
    Upgrading firmware:
    click on Garmin's site
    download, install and run "WebUpdater"
    Follow on screen instructions.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

You will need to erase a file from the units memory. Connect your GPS system to your computer; go to start then ‘My Computer’, and double click on your device file (mass storage system), there you will see a folder named ‘Garmin’.
In this folder are several different files, look for file named gmapsupp.img. Right hand click on this file and delete as this file is causing the maps to lock.

If you already tried those solution and it didn't work, you can try to reload again the update that you have installed and then after that reset the unit....

Need to up date maps

Create an account at myGarmin regsiter your unit ID number this will allow you to unlock the maps that you buy. You then have two options the first requires you to have an NT 2009 or 2008 map already installed.
nüMaps Lifetime™This will cost you £99.99 and is a on off payment Remember — this map update can only be used to update the preloaded maps that came installed on your Garmin GPS device. For example, a Garmin GPS device preloaded with North America maps only cannot be updated with a nüMaps Lifetime Europe Map Update, and vice versa. Check product compatibility. nüMaps Onetime™ This will cost you £79.99 and does not rely on having a map already installed.
The City Navigator® Europe NT comes on a DVD or you can download it.

I am updating my nuvi 200 with map update 2009 of city navigator north america nt. Canada is not loading to my gps through my computer. Looking for a solution.

when updating from the city nav update disc, it will only update the maps currently on the unit. Since Canada isnt included, it will not add it on. What you need is the Pre-programed City navigator chip for Canada. Normally retails around $59.99

Map data availability

"I tried to load the new 2008 City Navigator but the update was interrupted."

You deleted your previous maps, therefore there are no maps on the unit. Try reloading the maps again and this time let it continue all the way to the end. It will take a couple of hours depending on loading all maps or only certain states.
